I can't seem to find the answer after hours of searching on Google and in these forums. I've got a Dell XPS M1330 and I'm trying to install iATKOS v7 on a spare, blank drive with no luck. I boot to my DVD with the cpus=1 flag (it panics if I don't) and then the install hangs after that. It never completely boots to the DVD so I can start installing. The HDD light doesn't blink, DVD spins down and it just sits. I've tried it with no partitions on the drive and one partition unformatted and set active. I let it sit for 20 minutes and it never moved. I'm trying to download iDeneb, but it's going slow... Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried both AHCI and ATA settings in the BIOS without any luck. I don't have the exact part it hangs on yet with the -v switch as I have to switch drives every time I have to install and forgot to write it down.... Here's the hardware I've got in my system:

XPS M1330

Core 2 Duo T5750

4GB RAM

GeForce 8400M

BLANK Hitachi 120GB HDD (this is what I'm trying to install to, my Windows drive is a WD Scorpio Black 320GB)

*Edit: I tried it again so I could take a screen shot and get the last things on screen...Here's the last 3 lines:

MAC Framework successfully Initialized

using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 0:23

Well, you probably hang at 'Waiting for boot device'. This means no driver for your sata controller is loaded. Probably the safest is to use another distro indeed. I've never failed when I used iDeneb, so that's a good choice

We'll see if that works after it's done downloading....

In the mean time I uploaded a picture and the text from where it hangs.

This is a well known error. Try searching the forum for it.

I come on this, first hit: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86298

Try what is suggested in that thread, it'll probably help you (read the last post too, and number 12 may be the best for you..) ;)

(since you get it when booting the install dvd, you'll need a dvd with the correct stuff)

I'm about ready to give up... I'm no further than Saturday or Sunday... I've tried several boot options (-x -f, cpus=1, mach_970), and NOTHING. Still just hung on IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 0:23. I get the same with iDeneb 1.5 and iATKOS v7 with no luck.... I'm going to try Kalyway after I get home tonight, but I really just don't think it's going to work. Does anyone have any ideas that can help?

OK, nothing has worked so far. I've tried 3 different distros with no luck. All of them hang. I've tried disabling speedstep as was suggested in another thread, tried again with the SATA controller set to ATA instead of AHCI, turned off wireless and bluetooth, searched Google for ages with no luck. Nothing in the other thread was of any use and neither was this http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=174496 with no luck... This sucks... I really wanna learn Mac, but I don't have the $ to buy an actual Mac, not to mention I don't wanna buy one when I'm not sure I'll like it.

No go with iPC either. I've disabled everything I can in the BIOS with no luck. Set my drive to ATA, and nothing. I really am stumped. I really don't want to keep downloading different distros just to have the same problems. I've turned off speedstep, dynamic accelleration, USB, Bluetooth, Firewire/Media card reader, NIC, Wireless, everything.... 4 different distros, same errors.... I'm at a loss. I might try it on my Latitude D630 and see if that works, then swap the drive in to my M1330 since they're both the same hardware platform....

Any more advice from anyone?? I've tried busratio=12 (the ratio of my processor) cpus=1 mach_970 -v -x. I've hunted on Google for days, tried iPC 10.5.6, iDeneb 1.5, iATKOS v7 and Kalyway 10.5.2. No matter what switches I've set, what BIOS settings I've tried, nothing has worked. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Just to try, I'm downloading iATKOS v5 and iDeneb 1.3, but has anyone successfully installed this on an XPS M1330 with BIOS A15?
