I can't recall exactly where and when, but I remember someone asking me about LAN not working on the G31M-ES2L. It was a head-scratcher, since this is a well-documented board, and LAN is known to work.

However...

I recently ordered a G31M-E2SL for a client build, and had trouble with the onboard LAN myself. After some digging around, I noticed there's now a rev. 2.x of this board. I got a rev 2.x board last I ordered from newegg.

With the rev 2.x version, Gigabyte switched the LAN from Realtek ALC 883, to Atheros AR8131. Thus far, I haven't been able to find a working kext for this new chip, so I'm using a PCI Ethernet card. (Everything else with the rev 2.x seems the same).

Just a heads up: the G31M-ES2L is a very popular board for Hackintosh, so be warned that you may get a rev. 2x board.

Thanks for the heads up Zaap!

I was looking at the Gigabyte website a few days ago and noticed that there was a 2.x version listed and was wondering what had changed.

Also, as a heads up, you can tell what version of the motherboard is in the box without even opening it. On the outside of the box (typically on the side) there will be a white sticker indicating motherboards features (lan, audio pci express slots and such) and will have in the corner of the sticker what version of the motherboard is in the box.

Might not help you out too much if ordering online (unless they will check for you), but if you are buying used or picking up from a local store, it can help save you a potential headache.

Did you happen to get the sound working on the Rev 2 with Snow Leopard? It's my last hangup on this board - I've got everything else tweaked to perfection.

I had the rev 1 board in my system before I sold it and bought my 27" iMac. Attached is a zip file with the HDA kext and the DSDT.dsl which is the uncompiled version of a DSDT.aml file. You should have speakers, mic and headphones with this kext and DSDT mods.

Put the kext in /Extra/Extensions and decompile your DSDT, and put in the HDEF and don't forget the DTGP method unless it's already in yours. I did not include my DSDT.aml because of the Lan differences between the revisions.

Good luck...

LAN actually does work now on the Rev 2 boards, no need to get an extra card for network. Just install the attached driver using Kext Utility.

If anyone has sound working in 64-bit mode on this board, please post your drivers! And your DSDT!

Thanks!
