Hi all,

I understand there is a lot of questions floating around and not nearly enough answers, so I will appreciate any feedback anyone may give.

I have successfully installed OSX after a couple of tweaks on newly purchased hardware, however I am now trying to install it on some slightly older hardware: Asus P4C800 motherboard.

I have tried the following:

1) Boot-132 and Retail Leopard 10.5.1 DVD. Result: I get a black screen after the bootloader finished loading.

2) iDeneb 1.4 (Leopard 10.5.6). Result: Install runs perfectly. I installed chain0 to dual-boot (XP/OSX). I start OSX using -v mode. After the darwin bootloader screen, when the resolution is supposed to change to the smaller font, the screen just goes black and the PC hangs. I tried choosing different kexts during the install, but I don't really know what I'm doing or why so it resulted in the same problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: More hardware information.

Intel Pentium 4 3.2ghz

MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3

Northbridge: Intel i875P

Southbridge: Intel ICH5

BIOS: 1016.001

Leadtek Nvidia GeForce 6800 (AGP)

Okay so I've managed to succeed in the end. Here is a couple of tips, if anyone may require them for future use:

- iDeneb 1.4 (Leopard 10.5.6)

- Patches selected: Kernel 9.2.2 SSE2, ICHx Fix, Nvidia NVdarwin

- Which patches helped and which didn't, I'm not sure.

- Other issues I had afterwards included: PS2 Keyboard not working (Solved by using a USB keyboard, if anyone can come up with a PS2 suggestion I would appreciate it), Onboard audio not working (Solved by using a Creative sound card, once again if there are any solutions for the SoundMax ICH5 AC'97 audio, I'll greatly appreciate them)

My guess is that it was the kernel that made the difference between it booting and giving me the black screen, second guess is the nvidia drivers - though I never really fooled around with that.

2nd Hackintosh, success! I would love to know how to do a vanilla install though, where do I go to read about that?

I have the same MB and will be attempting the same process you did. Other than the kernel selection anything special I should be looking out for when trying the installation?
