So I'm new here, I spent ~ an hour reading about various components (boot 132, modded distros, etc), but I have no base of where they go/what they do to fit together.

I have significant computer experience, as well as some in linux.

So what distro/install method would be best for my system:

  • Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz
  • 4 GB of ram
  • AsusteK p5k Deluxe -- Chipset: p35/G33/G31 SouthBridge: 82801R (ICH9R)
  • Multiple HD/Optical drives
  • ATI Radeon HD3870
  • Marvell Yukon Ethernet controller,
  • Realtek RTL8169 PCI family ethernet controller
  • On board sound

If someone could give me advice on which distro I should use and how the various components (boot-132, PC-EFI, etc) work, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Get iPC 10.5.6 PPF5

  • Use the Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel with 9.5.0 Seatbelt Fix
  • ICHX or ICH10/9 Chipset driver.
  • ACPI Fix (If you get the Clusters "xxxx" while booting)
  • Marvell Ethernet Driver... or Realtek
  • On board sound?? Which one?
  • After Installing, download Chameleon RC2 Bootloader

.

*Vanilla* Might work.... Experiment by using no kernel in the list.

iPC sounds like a good bet, is it updatable to the latest version?

I'm not sure I read correctly, but if you use a vanilla kernal you can update from apple patches?

Would ideneb work? My friend has a copy burnt (1.6, 10.5.8).

Edit: I have a windows HD (partitioned for vista/7) as well as a blank HD, is it possible to install on the blank HD then bootload into either windows partition?
