gazfocus
I have built a hackintosh which works great but I have been looking at posts on here and they have wet my appetite to transfer my hackintosh into a G5 PowerMac case. What I would like to know is do you guys/girls think there's much point in doing this or just leave the computer as it is (seeing as it's working anyway) and therefore, saving my £100+? I will be buying a Mac Pro at some point next year and it would be nice to have both systems in my office at least looking like real Mac's rather than a Mac and a PC, but I'm not sure if that's enough justification. Let me know your thoughts. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180983-looking-at-building-a-g5-hackintosh/ Share on other sites
Zenyx
As I see it, that's an entirely personal choice that boils down to the question of whether this aesthetic difference is worth £100+ to you. If you decide that it is, then there doesn't need to be a justification beyond that. Some things you may want to consider: How well will your current system fit into the G5 PowerMac case, if at all? (Maybe someone else can answer that for you.) How much time and effort will it take to transfer? Will you be the only one who will see/notice/care about this transfer? Are there other ways you could improve your system with that money? Etc. If you still can't decide, I'd probably advise against it. No use spending money on something you can't convince yourself to buy. akira9000
G4 and G5 hack case mods use up far more of your time than your money. If you're lucky as I have, been all your bits might only cost you £50 per project, assuming you've got some tools, but you can kiss goodbye to 2 days of your time. It is extremely satisfying when its all done and dusted though. gazfocus
Thanks for your advice. I have been thinking about this for a while. I think the system is pretty much as good as it can be. Yeah, I could spend £100 and get a new CPU (2.93GHz Core 2 Duo) to replace my Quad 2.4GHz or get the Ram up to 8GB, but I don't really think I'll benefit a huge amount from higher performance. But yeah, I get your point about not doing it if I can't convince myself it's worth doing. Would still like other peoples opinions though :censored2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180983-looking-at-building-a-g5-hackintosh/#findComment-1232305 Share on other sites
