Getting smarter ...third time I have written this post ...this time in WordPad (yuK) first so as to be able to paste into forum in case it gets dumped a third time

The Point of the Post:

Attempted Netkas method of Kalyway 10.5.1 to 10.5.6 Combo Update

Booted and locked on Blue Screen (apparently NOT uncommon unfortunately) That is the short story.

Here are the gory blow by blow details:

Followed method verbatim (note I did not see the appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext appear and disappear despite diligently monitoring. Perhaps it went so fast I missed it.)

Then I did see the following in the Term window:

"System/Library/Frameworks/Metadata.framework/Versions/A/Support/mdworker[1476]:Unable to load info.plist exceptions (can't get exceptions URL)"

Not knowing how to proceed I just continued on.

Perhaps ill advisedly I did load Voodoo kernel (specifically Voodoo_Kernel_Release_1-1.0_Rev_A.dmg). Couldn't find the referenced Voodo (earlier release I believe). I did this because this hackintosh is on an Acer Aspire 5610 and historically unhacked kernels don't seem to like the crappy Acer.

When I booted it locked on the infamous Blue Screen. Fortunately I did this on a full properly functioning clone of my original Kalyway 10.5.1 drive so all was not lost.

Swapped back to the original Kaly 10.5.1 HDD and booted normally. Hooked the now defunct 10.5.6 drive up via DriveWire and was able to access the file system. Edited the boot.plist to refer the kernel back to kernel.original to attempt a "Vanilla" boot.

Upon booting...same thing ... all good until the blue screen.

Google search revealed that even many real Mac owners were creamed by 10.5.6 upgrade. So fortunate I took the time to make a clone in anticipation that I may have problems. But didn't realize how much stuff was out there on the .6 upgrade trashing even real Macs. Wish I had checked first.

So where to go from here? Does anyone out there have a solution? I see that 10.5.8 is out. Didn't know that. Perhaps I should try that...but start back at Kalyway 10.5.1 reclone from original working drive? Attempt to install over aborted attempt?

Suggestions please :P

Update !!!

Having read additional posts in other topics I plugged in an external Dell flatscreen LCD monitor and discovered upon booting that, in fact, the 10.5.6 drive was booting just fine. It books to the external only with nothing on the laptop screen.

Attempting to adjust displays would not allow me to have both working. Just the external. So I have to do some research on what to do next.

I also discovered that the laptops keyboard is not operation either. I don't have a USB keyboard here to try and see it that alleviates the problem but I may pick one up next trip to town.

Wonder if comparing extensions (kexts) between this 10.5.6 and my working 10.5.1 would pay off? Delete all those that aren't in the 10.5.1 and add any that are? Hmmmm?

Thoughts?
