sev1972
Hi all, I've read all the sticky guides and I notice that one thing is common amongst all of them, and that is that they all begin with a distro of some kind. I'd like to ask, why is this necessary? Is begining with a distro easier than just using the boot 123 method and a purchased retail CD? I have a genuine Apple copy of Leopard, but I have now downloaded iAtkos also. I'm just finding this a bit confusing now. I'd be interested in knowing just for my own knowledge and also so I have the background knowledge of the why's as well as the hows. Many thanks in advance. geiman
in many cases, the "distro's" offer a much easier install, as the grunt work is done for you. However you can usually achieve a more custom install using boot 132 or one of its counterparts; in my opinion, its a much better option as it is much more flexible and of course offers (usually) seamless updates. if you are totally new to the scene, try whichever sounds easiest. Or give both a try and see which one yields the better results. Sometimes it completely depends on the hardware. My server I can only install with iPC, anything else totally fails, while my laptop I use a boot 132 cd and then my custom efi partition after the initial install. It pretty much just boils down to what hardware you have.
