fast83
Hi everybody, it's been awhile since I started lurking this site, but I finally decided to join because, after hours and hours of trying, I couldn't find a solution for my dual booting XP&OsX. Well, my setup is pretty simple, a eeePC 1000H, straight out of the box. Let's see if I can explain my problem so that someone could help. This is my brother's laptop, 6 months ago somebody stole his MacBookPro 17", he's been trying to get used to Windows, but like me, it's impossible, so he gave it to me to see what could be done. First of all, I followed Enik's guide to install iDeneb, and, after 4/5 times (I forgot to put the dsdt file in root, I messed with the kexts too much, who knows what else), everything works just fine. Os X boots with Chameleon 2.0, latest release (r640), and I can see my Win partition as well as reading/copying files from it. Of course I can't write, because it's originally NTFS. Finally, I thought that I could afford a try booting XP, so I selected it from the Chameleon list, but a flashing-very-80s-like-almost-psychedelic-but-not-helping cursor stays on and nothing else. So, searching for a method to boot it, I found the "flag-the-partition" one, so fdisked my way to it, obtaining a new but not-very-helping boot0: MBR boot0: done. I press ctrl+alt+del, comp reboots and goes back to boot0.... Could somebody please kindly explain to me what the hell am I doing wrong?? I wanted to have both XP and OSX working under Chameleon bootloader.... I've been reading about the boot.ini method under XP, but the problem is I have no access to that partition from OsX and I don't know what to do next.... Another question: let's imagine nothing can be done to make XP work under these circumstances, could I format its partition to make some room available for OSX (I don't want to fuse the partitions together, I don't care to see two HD on my desktop as long as they both works), or in that case I damage in some way the computer, making it difficult or even impossible to install XP back in the future? I noticed theres a third partition which I assume is the restore one, so as long as I don't erase that, I'm safe to reinstall Windows as many times as I want, am I right? Thanks in advance for your help! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180548-asus-eeepc-1000h-and-dual-booting/ Share on other sites

Everything worked fine before with os x Could please somebody help me? cheers, h Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180548-asus-eeepc-1000h-and-dual-booting/#findComment-1284074 Share on other sites
MyExtensa5630
boot0: MBRboot0: done. I press ctrl+alt+del, comp reboots and goes back to boot0.... So is it giving you boot 0 just for the xp install or for the xp install and osx? I've been reading about the boot.ini method under XP, but the problem is I have no access to that partition from OsX and I don't know what to do next.... Also i have found a linux ubuntu cd to be a lifesaver to be able to mount the hard drive from the live cd and access all the files and fix the boot.ini file from there Hope this helps if you have any more questions feel free to ask Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180548-asus-eeepc-1000h-and-dual-booting/#findComment-1284127 Share on other sites
gt170
the boot loader is wrong. try installing a new one (chameleon efi) through OSX86tools. that worked for me. be careful when selcting the drive to install it. my config was corrupted yesterday and I got it back working after booting with boot123-cd and doing the bootloader install through OSX86tools from the still working macosx partition Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180548-asus-eeepc-1000h-and-dual-booting/#findComment-1292334 Share on other sites
hti
Thanks a lot for the replies! I haven't got a Ubuntu CD, however, I managed to boot from the IDeneb CD without issues and installed the new RC3 chameleon, everything went fine then. however, I tried installing snow leopard with a modded usb-drive, as described here: http://ipis-osx.wikidot.com/forum/t-178397...install-usb-key, but the installation gets stuck already at the grey initiation screen, with the wheel turning. I waited over an hour without anything happening. Has anyone had success with installing snow leopard on the eee 1000h? Since there are so many different tutorials that have been changed from time to time, I find it really difficult picking out the best. It would be soo awesome if somebody with a working system would take the time and write a clean tutorial! I had 10.5.8 perfectly working on mine with stock wlan working and everything, except for the touchpad. I've used the voodoo kexts but still the whole touchpad's dead and an external usb mouse is not too fancy for a little lady like the eee. SL saved almost 10gb on my MBP and there should be much more support for drivers, that's why I thought it should work nicely. Now I'm a little disappointed and almost on the edge of giving up and going back to leo, but hey, there MUST be a way to get it working!!! I'd be grateful for any advice on installing SL on the 1000h! Thanks for your support mates!
