You must give a little more information before anyone can help you. The most common cause of this error is the lack of a kext that supports your hardware. The Firewire error can be ignored, as it is just saying that there is nothing plugged into your Firewire port. The "Still waiting for root device" error is what must be focused on.

Are you using SATA or IDE? (Specify what you use for your DVD drive AND your Hard Drive)

What distro are you using? (iPC, iATKOS, iDeneb, etc)

What hardware are you using; specifically the motherboard? (Nvidia nForce, Asus, etc)

Once those questions are answered, I will most likely be able to help you. However, my knowledge is consisted of mainly Nvidia hardware.

iATKOS does not have a sufficient ATA kext for your machine that loads during boot. I would suggest trying a more complete distribution such as iPC 10.5.6. If it turns out that you have an Nvidia motherboard, there is a specific PPF patch you can apply to iPC to give it the drivers needed to detect your SATA hardware during boot. If not, there is still a good chance it will have the drivers necessary for your success.

I tried finding information on the mother board in my sony PCV-RS310 and i cant seem to figure out what brand it is.

I was able to find that it is Sony Part #: A8115569A.

is it possible that Sony made the motherboard on my system?

i also found this website:

http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/OEM/Sony/PCV2.html

and it gives me this note on my system: AMI 8.00 core (Asus)

Ok, from the information you just posted, it seems that you have an ASUS brand motherboard. So, what you need to do is find a list of supported ASUS boards with yours on it, and then figure out what kext that list is for. You need to find a specific model #, or at least a specific family that your board is in before you will be able to identify it from a list. Do you still have a working installation if Windows on your computer? If so, go into Device Manager and look under Storage Controllers and IDE ATA controllers and tell me what each say.

That particular kext is a plugin for the AppleACPIPlatform.kext. It controls your PS/2 ports. Are you using a PS/2 mouse or keyboard? If not, remove the plugin and you should be fine. (To do that, go to /System/Library/Extensions/ and find AppleACPIPlatform.kext. Make a backup to the root of your drive. Now right click and choose "Show Package Contents". Go into the Plugins folder and remove AppleACPIPS2.kext.

im using a PS/2 keyboard and a USB wireless logitech mouse

should i just use a usb keyboard instead?

can i ask, which where/how can i remove the driver if i boot in safe mode?

thank you!

If you remove the driver, you will not be able to use PS/2 devices anymore. I suggest just switching to a USB keyboard. Then your shouldn't even have to touch the driver.

i tried it and i unplugged it and it still gives me the same

Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPS2Nub

Hmm. Then I would try booting into safe mode and doing what I suggested. If that fails, or for some reason renders your installation useless, we can replace the backup of the kext you made by using single user mode.

i cant seem to boot into safe mode

i get display matching family fails

and still

Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPS2Nub

i tried

-x -F

and

-x -s -F and no go.

Is that before or after removing AppleAPCIPS2 ?

And I don't think "display matching family fails" is an error that prevents booting.

i cant even boot in safe mode so i havent removed anything

i also see

extension "com.apple.driver.AppleHIDKeyboard" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0

It sounds like your keyboard kext's are just plain corrupt or missing. The kext is looking for it's dependency (AppleACPIPS2) which it cannot find. I suggest a reinstall. It's your only option at this point.

this sucks i cant even boot in safe mode anymore

i have an Asus P4SD-VX motherboard

intel P4 2.4Ghz

what do you recommend using for the installation?

I am not sure if there will even be a kext for you to delete, since these errors you have reported to me suggest that the kext I told to delete isn't even there in the first place.

You can look for it in the location that I specified earlier:

/System/Library/Extensions/ and find AppleACPIPlatform.kext

If you want to reinstall ( which is what I suggest you do, use these settings: )

Duplicate ALL settings you used before, making only these changes/additions:

-Choose ACPI Fix from Fixes and Patches

-Choose PS/2 Keyboard Fix from PS/2 Device Support under Fixes and Patches. (Do not choose both Mouse AND Keyboard. It's one or the other, not both.)

Then you should be good to go.

And about your latest post, did you choose the VoodooPower Fix in your last install? If so, don;t do it this time.

okay im going to try a Fresh Install using iPC

and ill check all those that you listed above.

by the way last time i chose under chipset: intel ICHx SATA Drivers

should i stick to that?

how about for my NVIDIA graphics card?

i have nVidia NV44A [GeForce 6200]

Graphics:

Use Nvdarwin 128mb

And yes, stick to those chipset drivers. They seem to be doing their job. :D

PS: I will be on vacation for the next 3 days, so don't think I have abandoned you if you don't get your problem solved tonight with this install.

even though my card has 256mb?

under fixes and patchs i cannot -Choose ACPI Fix

THANKS I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.

THANK YOU! I HOPE THIS WORKS! :)

A quick spec lookup suggested that your card only had 128 MB. If you know that it has 256 MB, then choose Nvdarwin 256MB instead.

You cannot check the fix? Are you sure? Is it being canceled out by something else we choose? I am almost certain that you will need that fix in order to be successful. Try fussing around a little and see if you cant get that checkbox to be checked. If you really can;t get it, then proceed with the installation anyway and see how it goes. I'll be available for about another 40 minutes.
