drumthrasher109
ok. can't seem to get my 4850 working anymore. did a clean install. installed this: http://www.mediafire.com/?mz1leyhyolh then this: http://rapidshare.de/files/45735159/Natit_...inside.pkg.html that did the trick in the past, but now it isn't. i'm using DVI. i'll get a blank screen (as if there were no input). if i use dvi>vga & dvi, i'll get a blue screen with my cursor. i can type in my password, press enter, take a screenshot, remove the drivers, go to my desktop, open the screenshot, and i'll have qe/ci at the proper resolution. SO, does anyone know how to get my 4850 working again? i've tried nearly every driver combo... maybe i just missed something somewhere. any ideas appreciated! davidcmc
Firstly, delete all ATI related kexts from /S/L/E. They're all kexts starting with "ATI" and also natit.kext. For my Sapphire HD4850 Dual Slot, I've installed the kexts in this sequence (after deleting all ATI kexts): 1. MacOSX_10.5.6_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg http://osx86.radeonhd.eu/?file=8&sort=2 2. Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg http://rapidshare.de/files/47144314/patched_files.zip.html (from #radeonhd channel in irc.osx86.hu) 3. Natit.pkg http://rapidshare.de/files/47140358/Natit.pkg.html Install them in that sequence and only reboot after installation of 3rd package (Natit.pkg). It's VERY IMPORTANT that you delete the ATI related kexts from /S/L/E folder before installing those packages. For some reason, if I install them without deleting the kexts from /S/L/E before, I couldn't boot (black screen) to Leopard. I think there's some kext (that is not part of the packages) conflicting with the patched ones. drumthrasher109
just tries what netkas & davidcmc recommended. still getting the blue screen with my cursor thing. had the same {censored} with my old 2600pro (until netkas made working drivers for me...). so, i don't know. maybe one of you guys can connect to my pc and install this stuff for me? maybe i'm doing something wrong... UPDATE: idk what i did but it works, BUT there's a few catches: dvi plugged in to the port nearest to the mobo dvi>vga (nothing connected) on the other can't change resolutions (stuck at 1280x1024, 59.9hz). i get a blue screen when i change it UPDATE2: restarted, blue screen with cursor. gonna try one more thing. UPDATE3: yup... not working [anymore]. not sure what to do now... i'm gonna try what worked for me the first time i tried my 4850. i installed the original package and the res fix. FINAL UPDATE (4): nope. nothing is working. getting extremely pissed off now. someone plz control my pc and install whatever you may think may work. davidcmc
use aty_init.kext from myblog/post about golden rom, instead of natit. Netkas, I'm using the natit.kext from the post "Big radeonhd guide for 10.5.7" in your blog. Everything is working correctly, except that my VGA shows a 2.5GT/s speed in system profiler. The post about golden one in your blog says that using the ATY_Init.kext OSX will show the correct speed, 5.0GT/s. Is there any difference between the 2.5 and 5.0GT/s speed in OSX? Or that is just a cosmetic change? Thanks. davidcmc
can you connect to my pc sometime and install what you think may work? I'd try the same thing that I've done here. I've just switched from natit.kext to the ATY_Init.kext the netkas mentioned in the post "golden one" of his blog. The only difference I've noticed is that System Profiler now shows the correct 5.0GT/s link speed for the PCI-E 2.0 card. What are the outputs of your VGA? DVI + DVI + TV-OUT? My HD4850 has 3 outputs: 1DVI + 1DVI + 1TV-OUT I'm using a DVI2HDMI adapter to connect my PC to my LCD TV using an HDMI cable. Repeating, the procedure that I've done was: 1. Delete all ATI related kexts from /S/L/E (kexts with name starting with "ATI", natit.kext and ATY_Init.kext) 2. Install MacOSX_10.5.6_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg 3. Install Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg 4. Install ATY_Init.kext (http://rapidshare.de/files/47855063/ATY_Init.kext.zip.html) 5. Reboot That's it. I didn't have to do anything more. Are you using any adapter in your VGA? What port are you using? DVI, VGA or HDMI? drumthrasher109
ok, here's everything that I did: 1. Delete all ATI related kexts from /S/L/E (kexts with name starting with "ATI", natit.kext and ATY_Init.kext) (they were already gone since I had to delete them to get Leopard to boot). 2. Install MacOSX_10.5.6_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg 3. Install Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg 4. Install ATY_Init.kext (http://rapidshare.de/files/47855063/ATY_Init.kext.zip.html) 5. remove natit.kext from /s/l/e 6. Reboot with -f -v 7. plugged in my dvi cable to the port nearest the motherboard. boom. blue screen with my cursor. is there a way to delete all display related settings? there's gotta be a file somewhere that i can use to get rid of any resolution settings and whatnot. oh, i'm on 10.5.8. tried installing the drivers on 10.5.6 and it didn't work, so i went to 10.5.8. i remember in the past, everything worked fine on 10.5.6. The link for download is http://rapidshare.de/files/47140380/Natit.pkg.html If it still doesn't work, try using the VGA cable instead of DVI. drumthrasher109
did all of it. didn't work. tried it with dvi, with vga, with dvi in one and dvi>vga (with nothing on it), switched them all around, etc. all resulted in a blue screen with my cursor. not sure why any of this is happening. i remember when netkas first released the drivers, it worked like a charm with just dvi. now it's being a {censored}. oh well. just deleted my os x partition. never use it anyway. not my kind of os. drumthrasher109
ok, i just gave it another go, and all i installed was the 10.5.8 update. upon the double reboot, i get this: i had to boot in single-user mode to rm -r ATI*. i then installed this: http://www.mediafire.com/?mz1leyhyolh and this: http://rapidshare.de/files/45735159/Natit_...inside.pkg.html that usually did the trick before but i don't know. i'm now getting a blue screen with my cursor as usual. i'm going to try a new install but i'm going to install these drivers in 10.5.6. if they work i'll install the 10.5.7 update (instead of going straight to the 10.5.8 update). if it works in 10.5.7, i'll go to 10.5.8. wish me luck. ps: dvi was closest to the mobo, dvi>vga with nothing connected was on the other port. i did that just to be safe... drumthrasher109
ok. i did the following: "0. (No cleanup was necessary as this is on top of a fresh vanilla install + 10.5.8 combo update.) 1. Install this: http://www.mediafire.com/?mz1leyhyolh 2. Then install this: http://rapidshare.de/files/47335568/Enable..._cards.pkg.html 3. Download this: http://rapidshare.de/files/46870770/ATY_Motmot.kext.zip.html and install. 4. Go to /system/library/extensions and open ATINDRV.kext. Go into the plugins folder and delete ATY_motmot.kext. (Otherwise it conflicts with the netkas kext that you just installed.)" got a blue screen with my cursor. i deleted everything and tried again, but this time, i also did the following: "1. Remove the kext "natit.kext" from /System/Library/Extensions 2. Download this file http://rapidshare.de/files/47855063/ATY_Init.kext.zip.html 3. Install the kext (using something like Kext Helper) 4. Reboot." STILL getting a blue screen with my cursor, and this is on a fresh 10.5.6 install with nothing installed (except for the voodoo kernel). i also noticed seeing the following when booting in verbose mode: ATY_init: Card 0x9442 was posted ATY_init: quitting for card 0x9442 NOW, i just tried what i tried when this first stuff came out, just using the package from the mediafire link above. same old blue screen with my cursor . i REALLY hate how, while at the blue screen with my cursor, i could take a screenshot, remove the drivers, go back to my desktop, open up the screenshot, and it's at the proper resolution with qe/ci . only if the blue screen would change to my goddamn desktop . so, right now, i have no idea why this isn't working. worked fine in the past, now it's being difficult. i'm pretty sure i've tried every driver combo and port combo. if anyone has any sort of suggestion, i'm willing to try it. crunchattak59
Hi drumthrasher109, Welcome in my wolrd... I have try all Tuto for 4850 (in 10.5.6, 10.5.7 and 10.5.8). And none do not work! Because I think my graphic card is "exotic" I have 1 DVI, 1HDMI and 1 displayPort. The only thing I managed to do: QE ok CI software supported, and my ATI is 512Mo. But Mac os find 256Mo. drumthrasher109
os x will only tell you 256mb of ram until you get your proper drivers installed. any video card will get software core image and no quartz extreme. that's all normal. i don't understand what he's saying in that thread, and there's nothing related to the 4850 that i've been able to see. johnmelano
Hello, I have a HIS Radeon 4850 1 GB on an Intel D975XBX2 with a Q6700 CPU and 8 GB of RAM. This model has dual DVI and I think a S-Video output. I have a main monitor in 1280x1024 @ 75 Hz and the second DVI port is connected to my TV set using a long cable that is DVI on one end and HDMI on the other end. In Windows 7 this works perfectly. I installed iAtkos v7 (10.5.7) and I tried different combinations I found in these forums, but I get mixed results, never able to boot in anything better than safe mode until now. Now I followed instructions in this forum and I did this: 1. Deleted all ATI related kexts from /S/L/E (kexts with name starting with "ATI", natit.kext and ATY_Init.kext) 2. Installed MacOSX_10.5.6_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg 3. Installed Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg 4. Installed ATY_Init.kext (http://rapidshare.de/files/47855063/ATY_Init.kext.zip.html) 5. Removed natit.kext 6. Rebooted After this I got what I had gotten with many other trial and error installs, a light blue screen in both the monitor and the TV set. But then I remembered about some posts saying they had had some success disconnecting and connecting back the second DVI connector, so I did that and the main monitor showed the regular Leopard desktop. Then I connected back the DVI connector that goes to the TV set and got the extended desktop on the TV set. But when I rebooted with both connected, I got back the light blue screens on both. Same as before, I disconnect one and the other shows the desktop. Hardly something I want to do every time I boot up. Now, the next thing I wanna try is the strings procedure, but I have no clue if that will work or how to do it. Can anybody give me suggestions? The only things I'm not willing to try are flashing the graphics card or use a VGA cable instead of DVI. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179939-4850-problems-getting-pissed-off/#findComment-1239942 Share on other sites
