Shecky Lovejoy
I am looking to build something between an iMac and a Mac Pro to add to my video render farm (qmaster and After Effects). I want to try bulding an 8-core machine, but without the expense of the Xeon processors. I have searched all over and I can't seem to find anyone who has done this, just the dual-Xeon setup. Any thoughts? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179852-motherboard-for-dual-core-2-quad-setup/ Share on other sites
broken
I have searched all over and I can't seem to find anyone who has done this, just the dual-Xeon setup. I suppose you want to run a pair of i7's or Core2Quads? Keep on looking, cause no one makes a board that supports them. Long gone are the days when you could run a pair of Intel's consumer cpus on one board that weren't Xeons. If you need 8 cores, you're going to have to bite the bullet and spend the cash for the Xeons, the expensive motherboard and ram that supports them. Would be awesome, though, to rock out with a pair of OC'ed i7 920's.
