Hi, so this is my setup:

-Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L

-Intel E5200

-3GB DDR800

-Gigabyte 7200GS

-320 GB Hitachi S-ata

- Panasonic TH42PZ70 (42" full-hd plasma with vga and hdmi in.)

So I've installed retail OSX 10.5.6 using boot-123, patched it with the kexts for the board:

ALCinject.kext

AppleHDA.kext

AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext

RealtekR1000.kext

and added the efi-string to the boot.plist.

I also install a bootloader (Have tried PCefi, Chameleon 2.0 RC2, and now I'm on Bootthink, as it's the only one that's semi-usable.

1) The first problem is that I always need to have the ethernet cable unplugged when I boot, and then plug it in when OSX is fully booted. If I leave it in while booting, I can never receive an IP from the DHCP, and even if I enter all the info (IP,router, subnet,...) correctly manually, I still have no internet connection. Anyone have any ideas?

2) The second problem might be even trickier. I want to connect this PC (It is a HTPC setup) to my 42" Full-HD plasma. It has both HDMI and VGA inputs, however, over VGA it only accepts up to 720p. therefore, I am using a DVI-HDMI cable connected to the DVi of the 7200gs, and the HDMI from the TV. However, I can not get it to boot this way.

whenever I connect more than one output of the 7200GS at a time, any bootloader freezes. In Chameleon I just get a black screen, using BootThink, the entire PC reboots, and in PcEfi I get this screen:

the only way use the DVI-out on my tv is to boot into the boot selection screen of BootThink:

while having only the analog composite out on the 7200GS connected, then unplugging the composite, and connecting the DVI, and selecting the boot partition by entering. I then get crystal clear 1080p video on my TV.

Hi!

I have the same board. I am running a vanilla retail install with Chameleon bootloader. Everything works except doesn't sleep by itself. Will sleep if I tell it to, but not after x minutes...

You might want to try what I did:

The installation for me was painless! (Thanks Voyn1x :()

Give it a whirl and it may fix your problems!!

PS: I'm fairly sure that is not the right networking kext for this board. The install package from the above post has everything you need.

That guide was the second one I tried after weaksauce12's. Both gave me the same network and video problems. The Ethernet-kext was in the package provided especially for the g31-es2l by weaksauce, so I think it's the right kext.

For anyone who digs up this thread using search with a similar problem: I didn't manage to fix this problem. After a week of trying different Kext's, Cables, EFi- and NVCAP strings I just gave up and installed a Sapphire 2600XT. Everything working on the first try with an old Natit kext.

I'm glad you got everything working finally, even if you did need to get a new video card :).

I have actually done two builds now using the same motherboard, and the second one went as smoothly as the first, using the guide I linked to above. Both vanilla installs with the EFI partition containing Chameleon 2.0 and all the kexts etc.

Network worked from the start, and video cards have full QE/CI using efi strings in the boot plist. The cards I used were a 512MB 7900GS from BFG, as well as a 512MB 9500 GT from MSI which I replaced with a fanless 512MB 8400 GS as the fan was too loud.

The only thing I did not test was hdmi output. The 9500 GT did have HDMI out, but I was using the VGA and DVI with an adapter to output to my Panasonic plasma. One oddity I should mention was that I couldn't switch resolutions past 1024x768 using the vga output without the screen going all blue. Switching resolution from the DVI/VGA output worked flawlessly...

Network is now also working flawlessly, but now I'm trying to get a Ralink wireless card working, so I can put the UTP cable back where it belongs (the xbox 360).

In the end I just gave up on the video card because i figured I could buy the new one, and sell the 7200gs without any loss.

Sounds like a good call!

Re: Ralink: I actually spent a few hours trying to get a Linksys WMP54GS PCI card working, and could not. It just didn't want to be discovered.

I ended up just going wired, but before I did, I did a bit of research, and found that if you can’t get your Ralink working, apparently this Asus PCI card is the way to go for wireless g: WL-138g v2. Newegg in Canada has it on sale for cheap. Just checked US site and they have it on sale as well (and an open box one for 7$)
