RavynX
Hey all, When I was back in college I tried to do the whole OSx86 thing and it never worked out b/c of my hardware. Even when I changed out my mobo and got it running, it crashed shortly after an update. Needless to say, I didn't want this to be my Mac experience. I've been wanting one to play on for so long but I've had my old reliable Windows 7 RC here and Vista before that with no issues at all. I have an iPhone 3GS but I'm looking to have something to take on trips with later on or maybe develop apps for the iPhone on. I'm just wondering is it worth it getting a laptop to play around on. I'm thinking of buying a used one off of Craigslist but I'm not sure what exactly to look for in terms of "typical failures" of used macbooks or signs of neglect/abuse. Any recommendations for an older model and what price range they would be in so I don't go in getting ripped off? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. abkratch
If you want to get a macbook i suggest you invest in a Macbook Pro Aluminum 13 inch. Many of the white macbooks have quality control issues. I have had two white ones both of which have broken shortly after the warranty period is over. The aluminum macs; to my knowledge do not have these issues. You can get a new aluminum macbook (not pro, but good quality) on macmall.com for around $925 dollars. Hope This Helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179421-to-macbook-or-not/#findComment-1223950 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
The new white Macbooks are alright - they're $999 and have nVidia graphics.. But Aluminium is better. In fact the best right now is the $1199 13" Macbook Pro. The typical failure is cracking/splintering at the bottom of the laptop by the palmrest. RavynX
Cool, thanks for the replies. Yeah, after looking at some of the reviews I definitely would want an aluminum one, possibly the Pro model. My friend just picked a new 13" macbook pro for his wife since she's going back to school and she got the student discount online and they'll be selling off the free iPod touch to a friend for more cash back. So they essentially got the 13" macbook pro for $1199 - $100 - $200 (sell iTouch on craigslist) = $899. Is a 13" big enough to develop applications on? I need to check them out in the store tomorrow and this weekend.
