10.4.8 Stuck on Apple Logo Boot

Hello all, I'm new here; thanks a ton for the help in advance...

 

That aside, my problem is this: I have successfully installed 10.4.8 on a 250GB external hard drive. I partitioned 10GB for OSX (Apple Journaled Extended etc.) and the rest in MS-DOS for Data. The install works perfectly, it installs, appears bootable. I verify the disk and everything checks out perfectly from installer's point of view. When i boot though, it loads up to the white screen with the gray apple logo and the small gear below it, loads for 15-25 seconds, then the gear freezes, and the hard drive stops spinning. I've given it up to 30 minutes, but it stays frozen.

My Machine:

Sony Vaio FW-139E

Intel Duo @ 2.26

Update (For anyone listening): I believe i have alleviated the initial encryption problem, but now I'm getting stuck when it gives me "no airport driver found". I've tried deleting the airport .kext's (in Sys/Lib/Extensions) to no avail; same message at the same spot

You need to see WHY it's freezing in verbose mode. At the darwin boot prompt, type -v, then take a picture of when it freezes. PM me the picture as I probably wont check this thread.
