SeanyP
Hi Guys, Thought it was about time I introduced myself, I have been reading for several weeks now and for the last 3 days solid, have been trying to get Iaktos working on my system...with no real luck. I am fairly confident that I have tried almost every possible combination of kernels/patches possible and I hit one of two walls every time. Without voodoo kernel, I run through diagnostics and then hit a black screen. With voodoo kernel I get an device not recognized/ACPI error. After many -x's -v's -s's cpus=1/2's -legacys, platform=acpi, platform=x86 and so on...I am feeling dircouraged. I have tried to delete kexts/caches from terminal via dvd, but same problems. At 5am the other day it worked for 2 amazing mins...and then stopped!!!! I am currently downloading Lawless and Ideneb as I here they may be more phenom x 4 (with a DFI JR 790 mobo, 4gbs ram and a VERY limited phoenix bios) friendly? I realise that there are so many variables...that it is almost impossible to diagnose a problem...esecpially when like me, this is the first someone has seen of guts of a mac - I'm bloody clueless. Suppose I'm not looking for advice as much as I am looking for gentle encouragment! Thanks for the great forum and project! Suppose I'm not looking for advice as much as I am looking for gentle encouragment! Thanks for the great forum and project! I got no luck with iAtkos V7 either, I tried unsuccessfully on 4 desktops(2 amd phenom x2 550, 2 intel core 2 duo), and 2 laptops( 1 amd tl-64(toshiba), x1270 ati video, rs690 chipset, and the other one was an intel core duo(gateway) intel x3100, GL960) , then I switched to ideneb, and it actually worked fine at my first attempts, I use v1.4 and then 1.5, then run latest 1.5.1 patch, it was obviously some necesary tweaking, but after 2 weeks playing with I got 99% of the hardware components working on my laptops, only thing I haven't fixed yet is the sleeping mode. keep it up, at the end time spent it's worthwhile, imagine a hackintosh laptop for only $349 (gateway t-6345u) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/178635-iaktos-v7no-luck/#findComment-1219436 Share on other sites
SeanyP
thanks mate - what kind of problems did you run into? The black screen makes me think it is a video problem (have a 9500gt)...just wish it would provide me with some kind of error instead of blazing past all the diagnostics! Alas, with my slowdownload speeds, it'll be a while before I can try something else...so I'll just keep reading and reinstalling. Seems the problem/solution ratio with osx86 installs is pretty unbalanced! Seems the problem/solution ratio with osx86 installs is pretty unbalanced! the trick is you need to know every gut of your system/laptop, in my case I was unsuccessfully trying (in vain) idened to recognized by default installation my gateway dual core laptop, basically because the Lack of experience in mac osx world and didn't want to read all posting from other osx86 users. There is no general rule, but when I realized and once I knew specifically every piece of your hardware in my laptop, then I just have to select manual installation(you will be amazed how good coverage for most brands are included on ideneb v1.5.1 and a last tip would be to never use the automatic installation for ideneb or any other distro. I was surprised how accurate my components were recognized and the only think requiring post installation attention was my wi-fi card. feel free to ask me questions about ideneb! m0da
I've had a bunch of luck with iAtkos v5, so I decided to get v7 and try it out. No dice. So, I went back to v5. Others like iDeneb and iPC also gave me some problems. Try out v5 to see if it works. Also, the HCL lists should tell you what install disks the previous successful users have used. You seem like you have a good drive to mine out the info you need! Keep it up and do NOT give up!
