infra4800
first of all thanks for looking at my post, can you please help me in any way also, the installation i'm talking about in rest of post has been tested working on my laptop perfectly, only problem i am having is setting dual boot, on already existing HDD. i've got 80gb spare hdd for my Inspiron 6000 laptop, and I was trying the installation as per following conditions c -> 20GB NTFS -> WinXP SP3 d-> 34 GB NTFS e -> 20 GB FAT32 ------> This is where I want to install MAC OS X 10.5.7 iDeneb Method I used: 1. Installed Acronis Drive Management suite and made partition E as active 2. Installed Acronis OS Loader 3. Booted using iDened 10.5.7 DVD (through BIOS) 4. during setup, went to disk utilities and tried to Erase partition E as MAC Journeled, it failed. it doesnot erases it. and returns as MS-DOS (FAT) partition with label of something like disk0p1 I tried following 2 methods to make that partition HFS+ a. Booted to Ubuntu usb thumb drive, installed hfsprog and used dParted, it said it has formatted it but once went back to installation screen of 10.5.7 it said still FAT32 --->> failed b. then I had 10.5.7 installed on USB drive, I loaded MAC OSX from it, and went to Disk Utilities to format that partition to HFS+ ---->> Failed, results same as point 4 above, no change I gave up at this point. I do not have any clue why it does that. Few more things to note: When I installed only 10.5.7 on fresh blank HDD (& USB drive too) and went to disk utilities and created new partitions and selected one partition as MAC Journeled, it works. same installation disk. i'm trying all these on spare 80 gb hdd which i installed inside the laptop, so it is not usb. if anyhow it works i will install MAC OS X on my 250 gb laptop drive, which is removed from laptop temporarily i've got 250gb hard drive 4 partitions as follows: c - > 20 GB NTFS -> WinXP SP3 installed d - > ~70 GB NTFS e - > ~ 140 GB NTFS f - > 20 GB NTFS intention is to get some space in E partition and use that space to make MAC OSX HFS+ partition. Can anybody please help thx. infra4800
i found the way to work. all i was to do was make sure the partition i was making for mac os is primary partition and is next one after windows partition. when i was creating at the end mac os could not erase it as hfs+ file system hope this helps for someone and also, for dual booting, i used chain0 method, it works flawlessly. and it is pretty easy installation, using this chain0 and a usb with ubuntu on it, basically need gparted to activate the windows partition again.
