Portege M400

Specs:

Processor T7200 64bit core 2 duo (original T2600 32bit core duo)

Screen SXGA 1400x1050x32@60hz

everything else is stock M400

Installing the first thing you will find is a kernel panic error, switch off one of your processor cores, via holding down esc button upon boot and selecting F1 when instructed on screen then selecting PGUP to get to the screen with the Multicoreprocessing option use the arrow key to traverse then use space bar to Disable and select the End button and Y to save, then reboot is automatic.

Next you will find that in the install process that the screen will have colored lines upon it from top to bottom. Here you will need to have an external Monitor to continue. So reboot with the external monitor attached.

So next you need to decide do you need a maximum of 1024x768 if you do then select the 950gma rare option in the install with the other 2 vga selections.

If your screen is higher res then the only way to do this is to install without the rare950gma selected. When you have completed your install and set you permissions for the hard drive; have an external monitor connected, reboot your machine, at the point of logging in to verbose mode with -v select fn and F5 to flip the monitor screen to the M400 then select enter, your screen will open with the resolutions being available.

If anyone can figure out why this is happening this way please let me know.

Next installed the wacom digester using the latest Tablet Magic. Really easy process, the tracking takes some messing with but real easy to do.

Migrated all of my top apps from my MacPro 8 core beasty using fire wire adapter via the pcmcia, the M400 has the small built in fire wire slot will try that later today, its way past 6am and I have been at this for 21 hours, I am calling it a day. Will add more later.

Thanks to everyone involved with Iatkos v7, TabletMagic and Kexthelper and of course insanely Mac I couldn't have done this without you... Wrayski (the really tired guy with the really cool 'Tablet Mac')

Hi Guys, update 29th April 2011

Back in January my system went south whilst migrating User and Apps to another hackintosh. It has taken this long to get it working again and as you read on you will see how.

I downloaded the Iatkos S3_V2 10.6.3 the unzipped iso would only write to dvd from a Mac; after a week of installing it I finally settled on this recipe.

For the M400. Install without any changes at all, just default. It will default the VGA to a 1072x768 screen resolution and will be a 64bit system. Audio will be working really well. Usb works and the network works.

This is where I migrated my User profile and Apps from the previous 10.5.7 updated to 10.5.8. By opening the dmg file and migrating.

I had to manually add WACF004 to the 'Apple16x50' kext file to get the tablet magic V20b16 to find the tablet.

I then downloaded the 10.6.7 Combo update for kicks and giggles after copying the System and Library directories I installed and rebooted, it was fine. USB the tablet audio(iTunes) works all of my apps seem to work even Word 2004 with rosetta installed. My wireless realtek wlan utility doesn't for now.

It is now a 10.6.7 running the 10.7.0 Kernel without any hacks.

May 4th 2011

Moving forward I found that iatkos S3_V2 has limitations either 64bit or 32bit install not both on the same disk. I went down a few rabbit holes and found a lot of dead links, but finally got what I wanted a disk with both options default to 64bit boot but able to boot 32bit from using "arch=i386".

What you will need: (use any search engine to find a live download link, buy 1. and download 2 - 5 and steal 6 + 7, joking buy it or borrow it from a friend...)

1. A retail version of 10.6 and another working Mac.

2. MBR-OSInstall.zip replace file at this location on retail disk

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/

3. Empire_EFIV1085_IntelGMA_Kernelpanicfix.zip use BootCD.iso

4. koalala's ACPI Patcher.exe

5. Osx 10.6.7 or greater Combo update

6.An external usb device 8 gigs or larger.

7. Possibly a usb (mac preferred) keyboard and mouse

Lets start with the retail disk. More than likely you will want to have a dual boot with Windows Xp Tablet version, because it is 32bit they will not run on a guid format, so the retail disk will need to be moded to run on mbr formatting. Open the retail disk on a running osx system, you will need to see all the hidden files.

In Utilities/Terminal enter

I Copied this to word for spellcheking and lost the rest of this post as it is 303 am I will rewrite it again later...wrayski
