[iNTRO]

Hello all, it's taken me about a year to finally get to this point [kind of a busy guy]. Not until recently have drivers and installers worked for my specific rig and now I decided I need to share my knowledge. First off, here's my spec's:

MOBO: ABIT IX38 Quad GT Roadster Bios v 14

CPU: Core 2 Duo 3.0 Ghz Wolfdale

MEM: 4BG Kingston Hyper X DDR2 800 Mhz

HDD: SATA Seagate 250GB 7200RPM [soon to be 128 GB SSD | old one made into storage]

GFX: Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 GDDR4 Dual DVI ports

DVD: SATA LiteOn? CD/DVD Burner

So with all this said, I'm sitting here on my Mac OSx86 10.5.7 Rig listening to music, on the internet, typing on my blue tooth keyboard, and looking at my dual 1080p monitors.

[Preparing for Install]

  1. Download iPC 10.5.6 from the interweb :)
  2. Burn it to a DVD
  3. Make sure your Bios is up to date if possible
  4. Go into BIOS and make sure your boot order is CD/DVD and then HDD
  5. Make sure SATA function is at IDE, if install does not work try AHCI
  6. Should be good to go!
  7. p.s. the less HDD's to sort through the better!

[installation]

  1. Pop in your disc and boot 'er up.
  2. Make sure you boot to DVD.
  3. When asked to input options press F8
  4. type -v -chameleon -smbios (with spaces)
  5. Let it go and be PATIENT! took over 6 mins for me!
  6. When Leopard boots pick English or whatever you speak or type rather
  7. Continue and Agree self explanatory
  8. Don't select a destination yet - Go to menu bar and select Utilities-> Disk Utilities

  • once in here select your HDD from the left (not the specific partition just the HDD)
  • Select Partition tab in middle of options such as (raid, First aid, etc)
  • Press drop down and select 1 partition (recommended)
  • Enter a name for this Partition mine was 'Macintosh' (no quotes)
  • Format should be MAC OS X Extended (Journaled)
  • Click options on bottom left and select GUID because we are not dual booting this drive
  • Click ok
  • Click apply at bottom right
  • make sure it completes! then close out or quit the disk utility

9. Now select that partition as a destination

10. Continue

11. Click customize before you install IMPORTANT!!

12. Now, deselect the languages pack it removes 2GB and a bunch of install time!

13. Select the following patches/drivers/etc.

  • [Kernels] 9.2.0 netkas Sleep Kernel
  • [Drivers]
-GFX - Make sure to select your proper GFX card do research if you don't have the same as me
    -Chipset - Intel ICHx SATA
-Audio - Don't bother for now 10.5.7 will remove it we will do this after update ;)
    -Ethernet - Realtek R1000
-USB - Newset of the two (one says old do not use that one)
  • [Fixes]
    -Shutdown restart fix
    -Seatbelt kext
  • [Apps]
    -DeepSleep ;)
    -OSx86 Tools for sure
    Kexthelper VERY IMPORTANT!

14. Click done and Install!

15. Let it verify the DVD at least for your first try

16. Patience

17. Restart 'er

18. Weird text shows on restart for me but everything is A.O.K. I promise :D

19. Don't let it boot from DVD again though!

20. When it starts up darwin press F8

21. I used -x because my GFX were not fully configured you may need others such as

  • -v [verbose mode] = for trouble shooting
  • -chameleon = disables that bootloader
  • -smbios = system managment bios
  • etc. might need to do some research cross fingers though :P

22. Create an Account for Leopard

23. Once logged in:

Unpack and move these kexts to the folder 'extra' -

(to find a folder press command + space or windows key + space and type extra

  • download these
    DSMOS
    AppleDecrypt
    IntelCPUPMDisabler
  • Unpack them
  • place the unpacked kexts in extra
  • go to applications -> kext helper b7
  • drag the kexts from extra into kext helper
  • type in your admin password
  • Click easy install and reboot

24. When you reboot you may need to use the same F8 options as previously

25. Click on the little apple at the top left -> software update

26. Only have 10.5.7 Checked

27. Update :]

28. Keep a close eye on it! it may reboot twice and you'll need to input your F8 options each time

29. When you get back into Leopard use these updates to fix Audio:

ALC888 Audio patch

[CLOSING]

30. Oh hey, you have a brand new MAC.. now go have some fun!

(there are already guides out there to fix about my mac etc. for example mine said 4GHz CPU originally)
