whaase
I've built a couple machines now. But for both of them, I can read from the dvd, but I can not write. My first machine has a LG GSA-H55N, the second one has a LG GH22NP20. Neither can burn DVD or DL dvd. In fact, they dont even show up in the system profiler. But when I put in a cd/dvd, it does show up. I've seached, but most listed DVD burners are older that people suggest. My local computer store is usually pretty up to date and current on hardware. Any suggestions on a newer or late model drive that works? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/177616-dvd-drive/ Share on other sites
Schwinn555
I've just been checking into this my self. I've always used Pioneer drives with OSX and had great results. Great thing is they show up as Native Apple supported. Apple has used Pioneer drives for many years is the reason. Pioneer DVR-218L Sata and DVR 118L IDE Also reports that the Samsung S223L Sata works well also has IDE version. All are available from www.newegg.com for under $30.00(and other places). LG & Lite-on make a ton of models. A few work with OSX most don't. Even those that work may not boot the Mac OS DVD which you will need for future upgrades. Best of luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/177616-dvd-drive/#findComment-1214973 Share on other sites

Its hard to find any recent information on current drives. I was thinking about it today, and I'm going to pull out my LG HD/Blue ray drive out of my PC (never use it anyways) and try that one. From what I can see on Mac forums, it works great. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/177616-dvd-drive/#findComment-1214983 Share on other sites

So, try "toast" and see if it does a job. I hope this'd help. Cheers. Robert_L
I can read from the dvd, but I can not write. My first machine has a LG GSA-H55N, the second one has a LG GH22NP20. LG dvd drives have a firmware bug. You might try out my workaround driver, see http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=175741 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/177616-dvd-drive/#findComment-1217348 Share on other sites
