Hello, if you have an ATI X1XXX and an Apple Cinema Display, could you please post your experiences with the combo? I have a 23" CD and both an MSI x300 and a sapphire X1600xt.

With my X300, I get "posting" info and a bios screen at startup as normal.

With my x1600, though, I get no display from the DVI port in OSX--even after booting. In windows, I don't get video until the driver loads--after the Windows boot screen. In other words, I have a blank display until the windows login screen (no bios text etc.) VGA out on the card works normally--I get the bios screen erc.

This is apparantly a well known problem with the X series cards and many instances of people complaining show up in a google search. Apparantly there seems to be a problem in the card firmware which doesn't allow dvi out until a driver is loaded. I'm very concerned that this may mean that my particular card is unusable with my Cinema Display in OSX--it seems that if OSX doesn't find the screen immediately, it wont work later.

FWIW, I just got off the phone with ATI tech support and they said I can forget it: the x1600 and maybe x1800 cards are incompatible with the 23" CD. Damn that really sucks, and I bought it used so I can't even return it. Careful buying an X1xxx card if you have a CD.

If anyone wants to trade this card (Sapphire 1600xt) for another PCI-e/DVI card, PM me.
