Hi all,

 

I know there's other thread about the ad2000b, but I feel that this thread has merit to exist as a summary of the situation and as a humble request for assistance.

 

I have an Asus p6t deluxe v2 which happens to use the Analog Devices AD2000b.

 

I've tried two working variants for this audio chipset.

 

#1 is VoodooHDA 0.22

This variant gives stereo output to the back panel (green jack) and stereo output to the front panel.

 

It also gives proper front panel microphone input when you use the prefpane and increase the input level.

 

The disadvantages are:

 

-The mic input level resets itself in the voodoohda prefpane to zero after rebooting and after resuming from sleep. There is a helper app that can be launched but only automatically at login, so using the mic after waking from sleep still requires a manual adjustment.

 

#2 is the AD2000b kext with hdaenabler

This one is posted by "The King" in his Applehda thread in the tutorials section.

 

It currently outputs to most all the back panel connections, but only one at a time. So, either L/R, Center/Sub, or Rear L / Rear R.

 

There is no front panel output and no front panel mic input, although the back panel line-in and/or mic seem to show some activity, albeit at a very low level.

 

The advantage to this one is that you can create an aggregate device for surround output, but with no volume control. The workaround is to use Soundflowerbed's virtual output device which re-outputs the aggregate and allows for volume control. However for some reason, soundflowerbed resets to "off" after waking from sleep as well.

 

Now, there's two solutions here:

 

Either: fix the prefpane reset for the voodoohda driver (seems relatively simple, but I don't know how to do it.)

 

Or: Fix the ad2000b custom kext to properly output surround sound by tying up the rear output jacks, as well as fixing front panel input and output, and the volume levels.

Anyways, I went and slightly modified the latest svn of voodoohda myself so that ad2000b (and possibly other users with similar codecs) don't need to modify anything in the preference pane to get almost perfect functionality.

 

So, we have proper rear panel stereo output

 

This output appears to be UPMIXED SURROUND. That is, the 2 channels are automatically upmixed to the surround speakers. Not true surround sound, but it sounds nice :angel:

 

Front panel stereo output, and mic input (with proper pre-adjusted volume)

 

With this kext we still don't have surround output or rear panel line-in and mic.

 

Also, it seems with this build the titles look a little more proper, so no more "unknown" for your rear panel output, or just "CD" for your front panel input.

Works on the system in my sig.

 

It still doesn't remember volume or sample rate settings, and it looks like it detects two different HDA devices during startup and loads the driver twice. But original VoodooHDA does that here as well, it doesn't have anything to do with your changes.

I'm not sure if the timeout messages are from VoodooHDA but I don't remember seeing them before.

 

/edit - they definitely are - they just went away after I deleted VoodooHDA.
