bodger Posted July 29, 2009 Share Posted July 29, 2009 I have installed iDeneb 10.5.5 on an external USB PATA HDD, but on boot, selecting the USB HDD from my Bios, I get : boot0:... etc boot1:error I have read numerous forum posts here and elsewhere that mention using fdisk to and dd to reinstall boot0, boot1h and /boot etc, but that has not helped. I have also read of success in multibooting with easyBCD, which I have installed. Does any one have any suggestions as how to proceed, with or without easyBCD ? If anyone could direct me at an example of configuring easyBCD (and neoGrub ?) to boot from an external OSX86 install I would be most grateful. For the life of me I can't get that to work and nobody here has posted a guide on how to do it/answered any of my questions on how to do it. Since it's an external drive though, my suggestion would be not to mess around with a bootloader. If you want to boot from any USB device your bios has to support it. When you're computer starts up, go to the boot menu and make sure USB mass storage or USB storage device or something is an option. My Bios does support booting from USB devices. It tries to boot from the device and that is when I get the boot1:error Any one else here have anything to help me ? After bodging around a bit more with easyBCD and reading the fragments on the net related to this matter, I have finally got iDeneb 10.5.5 installed on an external USB PATA drive. The solution ? simple : Boot off the CD Get to the install where ? dialog Top menu - disk utility Erase the existing partitions on the external HDD and create a new partition, and this is the important bit - format should be MacOS Extended Journalled, and select options, second important bit, a dialog comes up with choices as follows : 1. GUID 2. (I forget) 3. MBR Choose MBR. (I had selected GUID previously ? default ? after reading other sources) Apply and format the disk. continue the install. At the end after install reboots, I can now boot OSX either using the BIOS, or with easyBCD's out of the box MacOS boot option. Magic ! hth.
