bsides
I know it's pretty generic or usual to have this error so I'll just go ahead and put it all my attempts and hardware. The error giving is "Still waiting for root device" on Install BOOT Already tried: iAtkos v7, Leo4All (last version and some before), iPC PPF5 and iPC PPF5 + last PPF for AppleNForceATA. Last lines on iPC PPF5 + last PPF for AppleNForceATA (all of them are pretty the same): AppleNforceATA: found 0 units. AppleNforceATA: found 2 units. USBF: 4.389 AppleUSBOHCI[some hex number]::CheckSleepCapability - controller will be unloaded across sleep USBF: 4.441 AppleUSBOHCI[some hex number]::CheckSleepCapability - controller will be unloaded across sleep Still waiting for root device [this line goes forever] Also tried to change IDE cables between DVDROM and HD with all setups are possible - with 1 cable and with 2. There aren't many changes available in BIOS, but changed about 20 times already with no success. Since it's the SAME error as other distros and I already read that iPC works on similar motherboards (nForce 500 chipset) then I conclude I only need to make this thing work to boot. My PC: Motherboard: ASUS M2N-E SLI CHIPSET: NVIDIA nForce 500 CPU: AMD X2 5200+ RAM: 4GB (2 x 2048 MB 800Mhz) HD (for the macos install): 120GB IDE DVD: IDE, Sony VGA: NVIDIA Geforce 8800GT 512MB Please please please, I beg some help. I do have original MacOSX DVD by the way. Thanks in advance. abhilash
Hi.. I had solution for your problem. Its not only your problem but with every nforce chipset. I too had this problem with my nforce 680i chipset. The reason why we get "still waiting for root device" is because there is no apple Nforce ATA driver loading during booting of DVD. The xxx OS X DVD does not contain the drivers required to detect the hard disk or dvd rw. The solution for your problem is read the tutorial what i have posted http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=176857 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/177096-still-waiting-for-root-device-applenforce-ata-found-0-then-2/#findComment-1211831 Share on other sites

vaxou
ok, update of my problem:p now i've reinstalled iatkos v7 several times with other drivers and stuff, and now when i want to start up, everything is going smooth and fine untill the apple logo startup screen, here, the circle of stripes keeps loading for hours! so i tried to boot with -v (verbose mode) and i got past the aplle loading screen, now i'm stuck in a gray flickering screen where i can see my mouse pointer, so i think there is a problem with my grafic card... how do i solve this problem?? bsides
For my system above, I solved with this: The waiting for root device was solved by exchanging the DVD Drive (a Sony) by my old and almost broken one (LG). I had to install iPC, the only one that really worked for me. My setup includes the following kexts: - Voodoo Kernel 9.5.0 - Audio AC97 - One that fixes dpk problems (don`t remember the name, but is a must or you`ll have problems on downloads) - Chipset NForce - NForce LAN - General Video Installer, from netkas.org Everything working, even pen-bluetoothie-thing I have that even Linux didn`t get.
