Nate Shoffner
I have just bought a new computer and I would really love to be able to quad-boot Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows XP Home Edition, OSX86, and Ubuntu (Jaunty). Here is my system info: AMD Athlon 7550 Dual-Core 2500MHz 320 GB SATA 3GB RAM I have been looking around at quad-booting guides and the best one I found so far is this one. It's a very detailed guide and seems simple enough to follow. There is just two problems. First off, my CPU is an AMD. I looked around and found a couple posts about an AMD patch. This will be my first time attempting to use OSX86 and I am not quite sure how stable it is. The second problem is when I bought the computer, it didn't come with the Vista Home Premium installation disc. Instead, it came with it installed on the recovery partition. On one of my old computers I was able to back that up onto a disc, so I imagine I should be able to do the same in this situation. (correct me if I'm wrong) As I said, that guide is very detailed but from the looks of it. I will have to backup the recovery partition of Vista Home Premium onto a disc, wipe out the hard drive. Install Windows XP, then Vista, followed by OSX86, and finally Ubuntu (Jaunty). Which would leave me using the GRUB bootloader, which I love. I would really appreciate any advice that anybody could give me. Thank you for taking the time to read this and feel free to point out any mistakes I have made. Thanks. Ranguvar
You can back up a hard drive or partion with numerous tools -- I like using dd, you can pipe it to gzip or another compress utility to save space. Another option might be FSArchiver. Both (and more) can be found on SystemRescueCd. As for learning how to get OSx86 working, I'd first backup and then get basic OSx86 working by itself. Once you have worked through it like that, without fear of mucking up your Windows installs, you can wipe again and proceed with the quad-boot. Good luck to you! NOTE: I'd personally wait for Windows 7 instead of going with Vista -- you might even like 7 enough to kill the XP partition, too (I am no MS fanboy by _any_ means, but Win7 is not bad at all). Win7 is already RTM (and has already been leaked, of course) and will ship in October if you plan on waiting for that. Nate Shoffner
Well, I am getting Windows 7 for free (offer with my computer). I really want to keep XP, since I'm a developer. Would you know by any chance where I can get the latest version of 0SX86 that works with AMD?
