shockjocks
Hi, I tried to install Mac OS X by following SilverZero's guide at Lenovo S10 forum Everything works fine until install Chameleon. Here is the instruction: 4. Install OSX: Insert the DellMiniBoot CD (herein “DMB”) and the OSX install USB key, and boot/reboot the system. a. When the boot menu appears, hit Enter, then type in 80 (should be your USB key) and hit Enter again. The selection should read “(hd0,1) Mac OS X Install DVD” or whatever you named the USB key. Type in –v at the prompt (I always boot verbose until everything is running smoothly) and hit Enter. This should start the OSX installation process. b. Select your language and click the arrow, then click on “Utilities” and run Disk Utility from the menu bar. You should see your hard drive with one partition on it (disk0s1). Click on the disk0s1 entry, then select “Erase” from the tabs. Select “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” from the list, and type in a name if you want. I typed “Leopard,” because this is what will show up in our boot menu later on. Click “Erase” and say you’re sure. Check that the disk label changed in the left side pane. If not, do it again. (I think it takes two tries because it won’t label the partition when it’s converting the file system.) c.Exit Disk Utility, and continue with the installation process. Before you start the installation, select “Customize” from the bottom left, and remove Printer Drivers, Additional Fonts, and Languages to save a lot of space and time. Let the install do its thing. It will say it “Install Failed” at the end, just ignore this and reboot the system (keep the DMB in, but remove the USB key when the system reboots). d. At the DMB menu, again type 80 which should now be your hard drive, and -v to boot verbose. The install will continue, use your best judgment at this point. (Hint: You can skip the registration part by hitting Alt-Q and clicking “Skip.”) e. When you’re finally at the OSX desktop, your wireless should be working. Download DellEFI v1.1 and it should unpack automatically. If you have no wireless network, download on another computer and copy it over to the S10 on a USB key. f. Download Chameleon v2.0 RC1 and let it extract automatically as well. g. Run the DellEFI application. Select “Custom installation” and check the boxes to install the Mini9 extensions and create a dsdt.aml file. DO NOT install the PCEFIv9 bootloader. We’ll be using Chameleon 2.0 instead. Any other options in the list are up to you, but I have only added the old keyboard prefpane – the other options are foreign territory to me. When it asks to reboot, say “No.” h. Run the Chameleon installer, stick with the defaults. i. Double click on the hard drive, then on the Extra folder. Right click on the folder Extensions and move it to the trash. It will ask for your password. Then double click the UpdateExtra app (the shoe icon). This will keep the Chameleon extensions out of the mix, or else they’ll interfere with the DellEFI extensions. j. Eject the DMB CD and reboot. You should have the graphical Chameleon loader to work with. When it shows up, hit the down arrow to select “boot verbose.” If all goes well, you should be booting straight into OSX without any external boot media. Check point 1 passed! There are some kernel panic information: a kernel panic after the ACPI config and before/during the SMBIOS config. "Extension com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style". before 4(j) step (boot with chameleon), everything is fine. But when I reboot and select "boot verbose", after several screen of information, it just stop there, the last message is: Mac OS version: not yet set Kernel Version: Darwim kernel 9.0.0 Tue Oct 9 21:35:55 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228~1/RELEASE_1386 system model name: Macbook4.1 I tried partmagic CD, tried to bypass chameleon. But it did not work. Right now, I don't know what should do. The system I have is either 10.5.0 or 10.5.1. I remember I bought it to replace Tiger when Leopard just out. I tried to use partedmagic CD to boot S10 (since I set boot order USB CD 1st in BIOS) to bypass Chameleon. But it did not work. I can see the Chameleon and Leopard Ion and the lists (boot, boot verbose -----). But no matter which one I choose, end up the same thing. It is like a dead loop. I am totally new to Chameleon. Not sure how to uninstall it or replace it with other bootloader, or solve the problem. Could someone here help me out? Thank you very much!
