Dragon Gamer
Hello, My Dad is looking into getting a PC for recording his music. I recommended that I build one for him for cost effectiveness and customization. When looking into windows options, all recording hardware was only compatible with only one particular OS and all software was expensive. So, I decided, why not build a Hackintosh. Here is the build I designed: -CPU - Pentium D E5200 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819116072 -Mobo - Intel G31 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813121323 (Using ALC888 Drivers Help from Here - http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=75564) (Also, will the Built in GMA 3100 GPU Work? I know the x3100 does. If so, I'll remove the 9400) (And will the G31 Chipset work?) -GPU - XFX 9400 GT 512 mb - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814150354 (Using this installation guide - http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=158685) -RAM - WINTEC 2x2GB DDR2 667 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820161241 -Hard Drive - WD Caviar Blue 160 GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136075 -Wireless - Rosewill Wireless-N Mac Edition - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16833166026 -DVD Burner - LG 22x - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827136144 -Case, PSU, Keyboard/Mouse, etc. Will PS/2 work? I have a copy of Leopard and iLife 08 sitting here, will I be able to use those or need to download a copy? If you see anything incompatible, I would appreciate it if you tell me. Also, any links to drivers/guides would be helpful :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/176924-building-a-recording-hackintosh/ Share on other sites

chevy2410
You are not going to be able to install from an actual OSX disc. The cpu you are using isn't compatible....... well I shouldn't say that. It's kind of a pain in the butt to get it it work right. You could spend hours trying to get it to work right. The other option is to use one of many patched distros available on the usual sites. Sorry can't post any links. You could search for iPC, iAtkos or Kalyway. I've tried all of them never had any issues except for the iAtkos ones. I have to say that the newest iAtkos 10.5.7 works very well. I installed it on a buddies second machine with a Pentium D930 and worked out fine. Oh, and will 4 gb ram work? What's the max? If that mobo supports 4gb ram I'd go for it. Also, are these all the drivers I need?-9400 GT -ALC888 -Wireless adapters If you go with a patched distro disc most of the drivers are on the disc. You just have to check off which ones you need. Good luck, Chevy Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/176924-building-a-recording-hackintosh/#findComment-1211575 Share on other sites
