Jerky usb

Strange problem here when copying large files to my ipod. I.e. 700mb files

 

Asus p5ld20-vm intel pentium D and nothing else plugged in to the expansion ports. Apple mighty mouse, usb keyboard.

 

Now when the file is copying things become jerky for example dragging windows about they have jerky movement. The mouse cursor moves about fine.

 

 

Any ideas on this?
