There are a number of obstacles I have encountered trying to get this installation running. Firstly, the disc would not boot on the internal DVD drive, I used an external USB one. Next, the keyboard and trackpad are not recognized in the installation. I remedied this by plugging in a USB mouse and keyboard before booting. However, the keyboard will not recognize no matter which I try, so I am trying to do this mouse-only.

The hard drive will not be detected. It has something to do with the IDE controller this laptop uses. http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gatewa...103991sp3.shtml has the specs for this computer.

Processor and core logic

Processor AMD Athlon™ 64 3400+ Processor

Operates at 2.2 GHz

1 MB L2 Cache

Level 2 cache 1 MB

Chipset-Northbridge ATI RS480M

Chipset-Southbridge SB 400

System memory

Memory type 333 MHz PC2700 DDR SODIMM

Installed memory 512 MB (1 × 512)

I know the controller is the culprit because I can get the installation disc to continue while the same drive is plugged into my USB IDE controller.

I doubt installing via USB will solve my problem (it is still installing) since the controller probably wont be fixed by the install.

Anything else I should be doing that I am not that might help me out? Thanks

Update: The installation finished and it wont even boot from USB. ("operating system not found")
