Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 AGP 512 MB only working in save boot and no QE, Q2E

working Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 AGP 512 MB Driver Package needed

Hey guyz,

I am getting nuts with an issue regarding the installation of my Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 AGP 512MB.

The card is running on a ASUS P4C800ed with Intel P IV 3.00 GHz HT and I am using iPC Osx86 10.5.6 PPF5.

I have tried installation of different driver packages I found in this forum, which are:

- ATI Radeon HD 3800 pcie Series 10.5.6 -10.5.x

I modified both ATIRadeonX2000.kext's and NATIT.kext's Info.Plist such that it contains the correct device ID for my card: 0x9515

- ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP - 10.5.x - 10.5.5

I modified only the NATIT.kext's Info.Plist such that it contains the correct device ID for my card: 0x9515

Furthermore I installed AGPGart.kext version 2.7.1 without any modification in its Info.Plist as I did not see any references to the device ID of the graphic card used.

When booting into save mode (option -x), the card shows up in system profiler as I would expect it. It even shows that it is an AGP card:

ATI Radeon HD 3850:

Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 3850

Type: Display

Bus: AGP

VRAM (Total): 512 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x9515

Revision ID: 0x0000

ROM Revision: 113-B1480A-236

EFI Driver Version: 01.00.236

Displays:

B 101910:

Resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Software

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

Display Connector:

Status: No display connected

I can enable Quartz GL as well. However, as you can see Quartz extreme is not supported and Core image is on Software.

When I try to boot normally, with or without AGPGart, I just get a black or blue screen depending on whether AGPGart is loaded or not. Not even the pointing device is popping up and I have the impression that the PC hangs up completely, as the keyboard's <schift> and <num lock> keys do not show any reaction anymore.

I am suspecting, that the driver packages I am using are wrong, but I could not find any other packages which seemed to be worth a trial.

As I have seen in this forum, there is plenty of people out there having a xxxxx Radeon HD3850 AGP with device ID = 0x9515, but no where I could find a clear reference to a working driver package for this card.

Does anyone have experience and a procedure on how to get this graphic card working in normal boot up and with all the nice QGL, OpenGL, CI, QE, Q2E modes working? - I think this biest should be powerful enough to handle this ;)

I think getting this clarified would also enjoy all other users having the same card.... ;)

Thanks in advance and btw great www page with a lot of got stuff around osx86

I got all other stuff on my PC working, mostly thanx to all the information here... keep running

Did you ever solve your problem?

Do you have a link for the AGP drivers (even though they did not work for you). I have only been able to find PCIe ones for the 3850. Also, how did you find out your device ID?

Thanks so much.

I got the same card to work via XXX_x86_10.5.6_Universal_Final_V.2 on an Asus P5PE-VM, DualCore Intel Pentium D, 3000 MHz, ACPI x64-based PC, Intel Springdale-G i865G, 2x1GB ram ddr 400, Sapphire 512MB AGP 3850. The installer GraphicDrivers option doesn't have an AGP selection for the 3850, it appears the selection if for the PCI-E version. I tried various drivers of related cards from the selections and so far only "ATIRadeoHD48x0" would work. But the card is limited like yours. From the System Profiler I get:

Bus: PCI

VRAM (Total) 256MB

Vendor: Ati (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x9515

Revision ID: 0x0000

Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded

DISPLAY:

(Only available) Resolution: 1024 X 768

Depth: 32-bit color

Core Image: Softeware

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

I used OSX86Tools to enable Quartz GL though the card doesn't show up as a device in hardware drivers. It appears as it should in "View PCI Device/Vendor ID".

If anyone has a fix for this card on this OS and board please provide the driver or Kext and instructions on how to install it. I have Kext Helper b7, but have never used it.

Thank you.
