I am attempting to install OSx86 on the following machine:

AMD Phenom II x4 940

Gigabyte MA790x-UD4P (F5 bios)

HD4830 512MB Videocard

4x2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 5-5-5-15

LG SATA Optical DVD Drive

1x 1TB WD Caviar Green

1x 1TB WD Caviar Black

1x 750GB Samsung SATA Drive

1x 200GB IDE Drive

1x 160GB IDE Drive

I was attempting to use iDeneb 1.4, but I am not sure if any other distro would be easier to use. When I tried to install it, the loader recognized my IDE drives fine, but then I got "still waiting for root drive" (I also tried ACPI also, didn't change anything). I want to install the system on a 30GB partition on my Caviar Black drive, but if thats not an option, I am not set on it.

Basically, I am not sure if I am going about this the right way, or if I should be using some other release. Any help is appreciated.

So I have tried installing w/ iDeneb 1.4 (with AHCI, no AHCI, and no SATA HDD at all) and have still gotten the "Still waiting for root device"

I have also tried Leo4All and Kalyways, both of which don't even get to the loading screen, they give me the option to add startup options and then just restart after loading a few things.

Any help?

Hi, zman24,

did you find answer? Unfortunately, I have similar configuration...

I haven't. I have been having some other computer issues so I haven't dedicated alot of time to this. What I was going to try was to disable the onboard SATA controller and use a IDE HDD/DVD Drive and see if that would help. I figure this might work because in the loading screen, it loaded 2 hard drives (IDE) but then stopped while loading SATA.

I have a Phenom II x4 955 BE (3.4Ghz AM3+ [not AM2+ like yours] socket, AM3+ means my board uses DDR3 memory as opposed to DDR2 as does an AM2+ compatible board).

GIGABYTE MA770T-UD3P motherboard

(I attached my CPUz readout to the post if you're interested).

I've had the same problem as you and it seemed that no one was putting up any solutions for some reason (probably not that many people with Phenoms trying to run OSx86).

It took me a week to figure it out how to get the very first part of the installer GUI! I've gotten that far and I haven't had the energy to go further for the moment but I think once you can get the computer to stop reboot, you can use the tutorials available on the web more handily!

First of all, I am using this release:

Mac OS X 10.6.2 Patched for PC UNIVERSAL (found in the torrent site thepiratebay . org [delete the spaces]

he has the following tutorials up on Youtube:

I can't put the link but go to you tube and search for: dEE84N-mFCI and it'll bring up the video.

He has better and fuller one, search for VfUBQqly-M in Youtube.

The tutorial seem good but are useless in solving your problem (the constant rebooting). Here's what I did:

In the Bios

I changes the SATA protocol to AHCI (that's pretty obvious from the other forums)

I turned ECP+EPP and I set it to chanel 1

Turned off AMD Cool and Quiet, C1E and the virtualization functions. Someone said that you should reset any overclocking settings you have to default. It's not necessary that these functions interfere with OSx86 but you want to minimize the risk. Once you got it running well, you can turn on these functions and see if the OS crashes or bugs it and then you let off us know... ; )

At the bootloader, I pressed any key (the equivalent of F8 in other distros): I put in the command:

voodoo -x busratio=16 (your bus ratio may be different, you may try 15 and see what it does... it's very important, I was putting busratio=20 and it was rebooting). Some distros will not have the voodoo kernel in, but try the busratio option anyways...

That'll get you to the GUI installer, after that, you can try your luck with the tutorials...

I'll update the posting as I progress in my installation.

Good night and good luck.
