I have a friend who is (was) using ntfs for mac since all her external hard drives were in ntfs, and she still writes stuff to them occasionally. Not to mention, she DL's stuff and shares it with friends who dont have OSX.

Well, apparently there's a problem with NTFS for Mac that was not foreseen.

She was looking at pictures from one of her drives when she noticed that the jpeg's were corrupted a la Warhol, and some pdf's wouldn't read, videos wouldnt play, and mp3's skipped.

She'd copied the contents of one of her drives over to a larger drive (both ntfs) and most of the files on the larger drive were in fact corrupt.

She uninstalled ntfs for mac, and viewed the same "corrupted" jpegs from the same source drive, and lo and behold, they looked perfect. I theen had her re-install it just to make sure, and again, the picture was corrupted, but when we uninstalled it, it was just fine.

So apparently, its having trouble reading, and just as a copier with a smudge on the glass will have streaks on all copies made, even if ntfs for mac is writing correctly, it is reading incorrectly, thus writing corrupted files when transferring from one ntfs volume to another.

It is not just on her mac either. She has two other friends who are experiencing the same thing.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with NTFS for mac?
