As it happens I spent some time fiddling with customize without really knowing what I was looking for. The install would get to various points (28%, 14%) and then freeze. I have now got my hardware info from CPUZ and have come to the oh wise and mighty forum for advice on how to get this glorious OS on my PC. So, try with the iAtkos distro. this seems to work better with AMD processors.
