hi, i am a beginner with the hackintosh scheme. i just received all the parts to my hackintosh set up and assembled everything. i got to the bios screen but when i configured the bios according to others who got it to work and inserted the iAtkos dvd. the screen just says "reboot and insert a boot media, then press any key" or along those lines. any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance.

set up:

asus p5q pro turbo motherboard

intel core 2 quad q9550 cpu

ocz reaper 4 x 2gb ddr2 800mhz 4-4-4-15 ram

EVGA GeForce GTS 250 512MB PCIe w/Dual Link DVI

western digital 750gb sata hdd

650watt psu

nzxt guardian 921 case

pioneer dvr 216d optical drive

also, just as a side note, the system doesn't even pass POST when i put all 8gb of ram in. i can only get into BIOS when i have 6gb or less and even so its not stable (the system would shut down and restart automatically). i tried to install windows 7 just to get an os on the computer but it will only last half way into loading the files from the dvd before it shuts down and restarts. is it my psu? i took out another stick of ram and it went to 75%. is it my set up? i am totally clueless. please help! thanks!

Are you sure you assembled the computer correctly? I doubt it might be your power supply since 650 watts should be more than what you need for your system. Make sure your heatsink has thermal paste and it's attached correctly to the cpu. Also having too much thermal paste can in fact retain heat. Make sure that the paste is spread thinly.

thanks for the quick response and constructive advice. i did put thermal paste arctic silver 5. i will double check to see if i put too much. i'm pretty sure the assembly is ok. however, the cpu power plug is only 4 pin from the psu. i have a quad core processor, do you think its necessary to use 8 pin cpu power plug? could that be the problem?

Quad core motherboards use 8 pin plugs?? I don't remember. I have to check mine when I get home but it may be possible. In any case they do sell adapters that will convert the 4 pin to 8 pin plug.

When your computer crashes go into bios and see what the hardware temperature is at.

Just checked my computer's motherboard and it does have an 8 pin plug. I have one of those 4 pins to 8 pins adapter.
