Hello,

I am having one heck of a time getting everything perfect on my first hackint0sh build. I switched to OS X in 2003 and have bought nothing but macs since. Found myself in need of a desktop, just couldn't spend $3k on a Mac Pro so I decided to go the hackint0sh route.

This message is actually being posted from my hackint0sh. I am successfully booted up into OS X, but there are a few problems, and I have a feeling its related to the drivers I picked during setup.

Problems:

- Apple Wired Keybaord = Does not work or detect (Biggest issue I have!!)

- Running BOOTCAMP or even using Parallels v4.0 to install Windows does not work. Running any form of windows or windows setup causes a Voodo Kernel panic?

- Finder randomly freezes and I have to relaunch it

- My aftermarket Bluetooth USB device does not detect/work

I used iATKos v7 and had a valid checksum with a good burn of the disc. I had to re-install probably about 6 times before I could even get it to boot into OS X. It finally came down to me randomly selecting drivers thru trial and error til I got what I thought was working.

Below is my hardware:

Motherboard:

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P ATX

Processor:

Intel Corporation Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550

Video Card:

nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS

Ram:

OCZTECH 4GB DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM

Hard Drive:

Western Digital 640GB SATA HDD

Case:

Antec Nine Hundred ATX Case

Could anyone knowledgeable tell me exactly what drivers to select during my setup? The only two I remember 100% that I am using are Voodoo 9.5 and NvInject for video card. (But these might even be part of the problem)

I really want nothing more than to get my system 100% so I can go back to work. I've spent many days trying to figure out everything thats going on.

IF it is possible for me to resolve issues without a complete reinstall that'd be awesome. But I will do what I have to do.

for the keyboard (which I assume is USB) try installing the ehci kext during setup (I forgot what it is called but it's labeled "for problematic USB chipsets". This might solve your issues with the Bluetooth adapter as well.

Another possible solution (as I don't know what the Gigabyte BIOS settings are like) is to toggle the BIOS EHCI hand-off for USB on or off (depending on its current state), if the option exists.

Dual booting should be handled by Chameleon or the like. To dual boot (if using only one drive) Make two partitions and install Windows first, and OS X second. The Windows partition should appear in the chameleon bootloader and boot fine from there. Bootcamp isn't an option for hackintoshes as far as I know.

The kernel panics could be caused by using the wrong kernel. Try using the vanilla kernel at first, and patch your DSDT.aml. If that is the one with the kernel panics use the voodoo 9.7.0 kernel as it has a few specific fixes for just such things and is more PC friendly.

Finder randomly freezing could be a symptom of kernel issues, so once again try different kernels.

EDIT: also there is a hardware profiler utility on the iatkos v7 to help you choose the right drivers for your install.

Thank you for the advice. I am going to let the thread sit for a bit if anyone else wants to chip in before I try to redo everything again.

Reinstalling and reloading all files will take me several hours, even with the Time Machine Assistant.

Would love to get collective opinions and then post my results.

How would you recommend formatting with two partitions? Disk Utility? My goal is not to dual boot primarily, but run Parallels. The only time I would actually go into sole windows use would be for gaming.

I appreciate the feedback!

New Issue Found:

Apparently I am having some network issues, I believe this to be related to the ethernet drivers.

I cannot do inter-computer networking. IE. my macbook pro has problems sharing/connecting to my desktop hackintosh. Also my hackintosh has problems sharing/connecting to my Time capsule backup. However, I can still get on the internet.

I'm having the same issue, but with windows computers. I can't see any of them in "network" in finder, but I can connect to them with a direct smb:// connection.

Try going into network settings, creating a new location, and in that location turning off IPv6. See if that fixes anything. Also try going into sharing and make sure file sharing is turned on.

GOT THE KEYBOARD WORKING!!

The one I had ordered offline ended up being DOA. So I bought a new one from Best Buy and everything is working in that respect.

I STILL cannot network between my laptop and my hackintosh. And I still cannot run WIndows via Parallels without a kernel panic.

I have moved everything off my hackintosh to prepare for iATKos v7 reinstallation with new/proper drivers selected... But I am still 100% unsure of how everything should look.

Can anyone tell me what check boxes to click before I install?

Also--Time machine will not work with my Time Capsule (I am assuming this is related to the previously mentioned network issue.)
