I'm using a gigabyte p35 s3g w/ intel core 2 duo...

I installed using the kalyway 10.5.2 disc, and got it up and running just fine (didn't install any drivers or graphics drivers or anything).

Installed chameleon.

Followed the instructions to update w/ the kalyway 10.5.3 combo update, didn't choose a kernel (per pc wiz's guide), and once it was done, I rebooted, and once it got to the grey apple bootscreen, it just stayed there with the little thing spinning, and never did anything after that.

What's the deal? What did I do wrong, and how can I fix it?

first of all, i hope (for your sake) you have a backup to look back to! :)

could you please say what processor and what kernel you had been using!

if you had it running in 10.5.2 than you should be able to get it running 10.5.7

don't worry, we will get there

once you have told us what kernel then we can go into verbose mode!

once in verbose mode, you are going to be shown all the inner doings of the boot process.

so you can watch and tell us what exactly is the last thing that you see on the screen (in case it stops somewhere :P)

(in case you don't know how to, read on!)

since you are using chameleon boot loader (nothing wrong with that!)

you switch on the computer and cancel the timer by pressing any key

now you have the cursor waiting for command.

you select the right partition (probably already selected)

and type

-v

and press enter!

cheers!

keep us posted!

Thanks so much for replying.

Going by PCwiz's guide, I had installed 10.5.2 via kalyway disc. Once that was done, I installed the kalyway 10.5.3 combo update, but kept the 10.5.2 kernel. it was 9.2 vanilla.

What information do you need when I go to do the -v thing?

intel or AMD

of course now it is clear that you have intel => vanilla kernel!

did you get into verbose mode?

how did it look like?

and plus, if you had vanilla! !! !

what the hell were you doing with Kaliway Combo or whatever it is!

just go to apple software update and update the damn computer (sorry for the language! i have just been sailing :()

if you have vanilla just goto apple software update and do a very important step there!

click on UPDATE SOFTWARE! :P

Yea, I'm using an intel core 2 duo..

I don't know what the hell i was doing using the damn kalyway combo updater. LOL. I really don't know what the hell I'm doing period, I was just following PCWiz's guide.

I got the -v thing, and I dont know how it's supposed to look. LOL. A bunch of stuff happened, and then it stopped happening.

just read the last 10 lines and tell us what it was!

there should be a line

debuger called panic

or something like the it!

just tell me what it was doing before the panic!

keep up!

you are almost there ;)

Never saw a single thing called panic.

I got frustrated last night and installed a new install! LOL. It's the iATKOS v7 or whatever, leopard 10.5.7....

It worked, but again, got stuck at grey screen. I did the -v thing ,and it said something about video card family mismatch or some such nonsense, so I think it's a problem with the video card drivers.

If i boot up with -x in safemode, the hackintosh boots up perfectly.

I'm running an ATI 3870x2..... What do I need to do to get the drivers working?

Alright,

I'm finally up and running with iatkos v7 leopard 10.5.7

Only problem now is, I can't change my resolution???

Installed 3870x2 drivers per this thread:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=107526

If I go to about this mac, and more info, and look at the graphics driver, here's what i get:

Not sure why it's showing 3800x2...I have a 3870x2. HELP!?

aa just a little more info here!

what exactly did you do that it started working?

and what kernel are you using?

Sorry, I dumped the install, and went with a different package.

I downloaded in installed iatkos v7 10.5.7 leopard package. I installed it without any graphics or audio drivers, and it worked fine. The kernel I don't know. I'd assume it's the 10.5.7 that got installed ???

System booted up into OSX perfectly. Then I installed the pkg from that link above for the 3870x2 drivers, and everything still worked fine. Only problem was, I still couldn't change the resolution or anything. This is where I'm still stuck.

I assume since you haven't chosen any, iAtkos installed the Vanilla kernel! you are going to find out whether my assumption right is, when you first try to update your system to 10.5.8 with the built-in software updater!

if it worked just fine (like real macs) then you have Vanilla, if you are stuck again, with kernel panics and stuff, you did not install vanilla! :D

about the resolution thingie

what chipset, what mother board

what graphics card . . .

just tell us and we might be able to help you out!

just dont give up

you have almost achieved the holy grail of the hackintosh world!

you are about the get the perfectly usable complete hackintosh!

cheers ;)
