Me again, trying to install leopard!... Again.

Um, yeah.

I was reading around, and I came across some information about iDeneb (using v1.4 10.5.6), which apparently had more support for SSE2. So I got it, tried it, and the DVD ACTUALLY booted up, unlike Kalyway which would just restart even before the apple boot screen. I had nowhere to install it, so I cloned my Windows 7 and erased the partition to make space... After I finally got that over with, I tried installing. Everything was going pretty well, until a little less than half way into the installation. The progress bar was sitting there for a bit, then just sorta skipped forward real quick (pretty far too), then it said that there was something wrong with the media I was installing from (that the DVD was scratched and what not, and to get another copy). Despite this, it passed the DVD check, which I decided at about try number 4 of installing to just let it go through. Considering that, I'm assuming this isn't actually a problem like the installer said it was. (The ISO burned at 1.5x speed by the way, so don't tell me to burn slower XD) I wasn't exactly sure what to select when installing however, except that I should use the Voodoo kernel (and the seatbelt fix thing) and one of the Nvidia drivers, so that may be the problem right there. (On a side note, JaS 10.4.6 worked just fine on this computer, but I could never get this video card working with it. Eventually, trying to fix the video card caused the end of JaS 10.4, so I installed the Windows 7 RC1 in it's place. I was using my integrated graphics trying to get it to work, and it sucked like that D=) Here's my specs summed up in 6 CPU-Z screenshots: (Note that slot 3's RAM is exactly the same as slot 2, so I didn't take a picture of that)

Video card is a GeForce FX5200 AGP 128MB.

I'd really like to get this working (and to know what exactly I should be selecting to install XD). If there's any more information you would need, I can most likely get it. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Hi Sonicfreak,

You were correct in selecting the voodoo kernel and perhaps the seatbelt.kext, however your bios and mobo would also make a difference, these settings cannot be guessed by anyone, we would need to know specifics. Your video card issue is perplexing to say the least. Geforce FX 5200 was a stock video card for several Macs, see: http://lowendmac.com/video/agp/geforce-5200.html try an install without selecting any video drivers, just using factory drivers and that should dolve your video issues, however you are going to have to be specific about your motherboard and bios settings before anyone ccould help you any further. Judging by your CPU-Z screenshots for the mobo, I would assume that this machine is a clone of some sort, without much ability to make many changes. I hope for your sake I am wrong. -_-

Thanks for the quick reply and info. (My Dad actually was planning on using my card in his G4 once I get a new card, lol)

This machine is just an IBM Thinkcentre, and it hasn't really been tampered with, all except for the video card and RAM.

I can always get more info. BIOS settings though I'll have to take some pictures of, which I can't currently. (if you meant right-at-PC-start-up sort of BIOS settings)

Boot the dvd, there will be the first arrow you click than you accept agreement, than you choose install location than customize your setup with voodoo kernel make sure you also select X11 box, and your other settings for hardware an such, than you click next and it starts to verify the disk!

Let it verify the whole thing once for the first time. Don't be impulsive, be patient...

I know its a long wait but if you want to check if your disk has errors than let it VERIFY don't skip, than you can isolate the problem to verify your disk is already burned correctly.

If it fails than reburn:) good luck.

Thanks, I'll try that out now. =D

Edit:

OK, installation failed at the same place. I'm going to re-burn at the slowest speed as doox00 suggested, because it seems that other people who have gotten the same ISO I have from the same source haven't had this problem while installing.

Here's the log if you guys are interested http://www.mediafire.com/?yjnnjwme5yi

(On a side note, it did actually take a long time to boot up off the DVD if that helps in any way... Tiger didn't have that problem, it only took like 2 minutes. But of course they ARE different OS's...sorta.)

Edit 2: Oh of course, I tell it to burn at 1x speed, and it burns at 2.5x >_>

Edit 3: I re-burned it, installed, but I got a kernel panic. I'll get a picture soon.

Well, forget it then. I'm going to put Windows 7 back on this HDD and try to get it working as well as XP does (Meaning Graphics and Sound. I get more lag in '7 when playing things like Halo, but that of course is to be expected). Now that I have Leopard at a state that it actually installs however, when somebody can help me with this problem, I'll re-install Leopard once again to see if it'll work. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it, but otherwise I'll eventually try some other distros to get this thing working. As I said, I'll just put Windows 7 back for now and do some tweaking unless you guys can help me out with this particular Leopard problem.
