I'm planning on upgrading my system, it's currently an AMD64 3500+ Clawhammer core (SSE2) with an nVidia GeForce 6600GT. I'm wondering which of the above people would say would make OS X run quicker, an SSE3 CPU or a new ATI card. I'm looking for both short term and long term improvements. I figure this poll will probably be the best method overall.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm running 10.4.6

The MacVidia project is improving at such a rate of knots that I have 90% 2D performance on a 7800 GT. I'd go for a SSE3 CPU, you'll see great improvements in all the Rosetta Apps, ie Office, Photoshop. These won't be universal for a while anyway. If you want to run some of the professional apps from Apple that rely on Core Image, then right now ATI is probably your best choice, however support for this is coming to MacVidia, should be worth the wait. If you have socket 939, I recommend the 3800+ X2, the price is right and it makes my Hackintosh run so hard... :D
