santysos
Hello people, I've got a problem with my sound here, and i think it's related with the CPU. Everytime I hear a sound from my hackintosh, it hears like cracked, like cutted, and when i move my mouse, it hears ok!. First i thinked it was the audio kext, so, i tryed with lots of different kexts, azalia, voodoo HDA, alc888, alc1200, alcinjectors,... And every kext worked equal, all with the same broken audio output. So, i thinked it was the video driver, a desynchronization or something alike, and i tryed and tryed and nothing, all the same, with quartz gl on and off, and with different video kexts, the problem was there. And one day, i was playing chess and listening to music (while moving the mouse), and i discovered that when was the turn of the computer, the music played perfectly without moving the mouse!, so i put a computer vs. computer match, i minimized the window, and the sound was working perfectly!. The same effect with apps that increase cpu load. So, when the cpu works some the sound plays ok, and when it hasn't got tasks to do (idle), the sound starts breaking. Why? I don't know, but: I see that in the "about my mac" and "system profiler" says that my cpu (AMD Phenom x4 9550) is running at 2.31Ghz, while it's real speed is 2.2Ghz. So, what do you think? How i can solve this problem? Thank you for answering And sorry for my english, i'm from Uruguay Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172858-audio-problem-related-with-cpu-speed/ Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
Post hardware specs and what bootloader and kernel you are using. Also post more information about any special hackintosh kernel extensions running on your system, openhaltrestart, voodoopower.kext, USB driver fixes etc. The more information, the more likely you are to get help. I have never had any issues like that so I have no idea what could be causing it but I think you're on the right track with your troubleshooting so far. Good luck. Ok, I have a Phenom x4 9550 (2.2Ghz) Asus M3A78-EM chipset 780g (sb700) 4 gigs ram at 800mhz Bootloader: Chameleon 2.0 Kernel: Voodoo 9.7.0 The distro i'm using is iAtkos v7 I haven't got openhaltrestart.kext, voodoopower.kext, or any extra usb kexts. in fact, i haven't any extra kext, i have only the kexts that iAtkos v7 installed. I'm using azalia audio kext Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172858-audio-problem-related-with-cpu-speed/#findComment-1188681 Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
Kernel: Voodoo 9.7.0 It says here that the new 9.7.0 based Voodoo kernel only supports Intel CPUs: http://code.google.com/p/xnu-dev/ If that's the kernel you're using, try the 9.5.0 kernel instead. santysos
It says here that the new 9.7.0 based Voodoo kernel only supports Intel CPUs:http://code.google.com/p/xnu-dev/ If that's the kernel you're using, try the 9.5.0 kernel instead. That's strange, in the iAtkos v7 user guide says that 9.7.0 kernel is for intel and amd, anyway, i tested installing 9.5.0 kernel and everything was equal . BUT i made some progress, because i tryed using Chamaleon v1 bootloader and it detected all right!, i mean, now in system profiler it says i have a: Phenom x4 2.2Ghz instead of 2.3Ghz like when i was using Chameleon v2 The same with the ram, it says 4gb 800mhz, and before was 667mhz So, i think now my PC is correctly recognized by the OSX, and now the video is faster, when i used to move my mouse over the dock, it was a bit laggy, but now it's perfect! And now, the sad part: THE SOUND STILLS CHOPPY no matter what drivers i use, tryed with Voodoo HDA, Azalia, some kexts i found in the forum (alc888 and alc1200), and no, the sound doesn't work properly. I've saw that Voodoo HDA driver makes the sound horribly distorted, even moving the mouse, you can't listen nothing coherent, but if you use azalia or the other kexts, you can listen to choppy audio and if you move the mouse (or make the cpu get load) the sound is perfect. What can be the problem? The kernel? I've run out of ideas Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172858-audio-problem-related-with-cpu-speed/#findComment-1189600 Share on other sites
Kris Ferein
I have the same problem on an AMD Turion64 x2. I thought it might be the ACPI, still looking into it. Any suggestions? EDIT: Now that I think about it, it could be the CPU power management thing, have you tried setting the battery setting to best performance? Does anyone know which is the kext responsible for throttling the CPU? I was reading my old guide posted here I used to set a kernel flag idlehalt=0. Might still work. Can't try out myself right now as I am at work. Hope we can figure this out. It worked!, Now the sound is 100% perfect! you must put in com.apple.Boot.plist in kernel flags idlehalt=0 and restart and the sound will be perfect! If somebody don't know how to put kernel flags (me 2hs ago), i recommend this guide http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Tips_And_Tricks Thank you very much for helping me, and thanks to all the people that participated in this thread! Kris Ferein
What driver are you using? Voodoo HDA? I still get stuttering, even with idlehalt=0.
