Hi All.

I am trying to make the switch from running a modified Voodoo kernel on my 2 Dell work stations and am having difficulty. Perhaps I am making a simple mistake, or need to read further...a point in the right direction would be most appreciated.

I have a real MBP and have played a bit with iATKOS5i and early editions of hacked versions...all with pretty good success :)

I can't get a working vanilla install and would love to be in parity with my MBP but running modified kernels always seem to blow up during software updates.

So...I am trying to install MAC OSx 10.5 Retail DL DVD from USB drive and did the following:

Created a 10GB GPT HFS+ (Extended Journalled) and used disk utility on my working MBP to restore the iso image of the install DVD to the 10GB external disk....no errors and afterward, it it looks like a bootable OSx86 drive.

Now, on top of this "restore DL DVD install image" I have followed directions to install Chameleon 2 (via zip files) as gui won't let me install to external SUB drive for whatever reason...so command line surfing a went.

I followed a PDF guide I found titled "Leo Retail install from usb.pdf" and did the following:

as root, i ran diskutil list and got this return:

/dev/disk1

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme *149.1 Gi disk1

1: EFI 200.0 Mi disk1s1

2: Apple_HFS Mac OS X Install DVD 10.0 Gi disk1s2

3: Apple_HFS Untitled 1_2 138.6 Gi disk1s3

next, from the directory where I had the extracted Chameleon files:

./fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk1

I believe this rewrites the MBR??

Next, I did a dd to restore a boot1h (which i am not sure I fully instand the purpose of).

dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk1s2

Lastly, I copied over the boot file to "/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD"/

cp boot "/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD"/.

I ejected the USB disks from the MBP and then try to boot the Dell using bios start disk option F12 and specify USB...I see darwin command prompt, immediately followed by a reboot.

I know unix, and have replaced kext files and removed cache and such....but I am lost with what I might be missing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Too much or not enough information?

What can I do to help narrow the focus of the problem I am hitting?

Thanks
