raymondh
This will be my first time installing OSX on a non Apple machine. I've installed on a Dell mini9 but that was basically automatic. Here's what I have so far: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 XMS3 6 GB 3 X 2 GB PC3-12800 1600MHz 240-Pin DDR3 eVGA e-GeForce 9800GTX+ Superclocked I was hoping to use the EFIX but they seem slow on their support for i7 so... I have a iMac running 10.5.7 from a family pack DVD and I was wondering if there is a way to image that install and use it on the i7 machine. Is there a guide that I should be looking for? I have a iMac running 10.5.7 from a family pack DVD and I was wondering if there is a way to image that install and use it on the i7 machine. Is there a guide that I should be looking for? Hi there: There is a guide. What it basically says is that there is a chicken and egg thing going on. You cannot boot directly from the retail 10.5.6 install disk with the GA-EX58-UD4P mobo like you can with the other mobos listed in the hardware compatability list on the EFi-X site. I setup my machine by having my son image the drive with 10.5.6 ( you need 10.5.7 to boot ) and then apply the 700+ MB 10.5.7 update on it. I then plugged it into my EX58 box and let the EFi-X harware bootloader do it's thing. Now instead of taking 6 to 8 hours to convert video clips on my poor iBook G4 I converted the same file as a reference in 16 minutes. Now I can meet the wifeys deadline for family DVD's. My machine is not overclocked in any way other than what the 9800 GTX+ might be set to by the manufacturer. Just in case your interested my system is running about 98 to 99% as advertised. I've noticed the system clock skipping ahead and FireWire has to be unplugged and plugged back in after restarts/reboots. System profile gives wrong info. It identifies the machine as Unknown and the ram with a speed of 400. VLC plays too fast. Otherwise iLife and iWork apps work. Final Cut Express works ( finally at something other than a crawl ). I'm using FlightGear again! The big thing is that software update WORKS! Don't give up to quickly or you'll miss having a really enjoyable machine. Mine has been running straight for 3 days now except for the software update reboots. I hope you enjoy your machine as much as I'm enjoying mine. GA-EX58-UD4P Optiarc DVD RW 6 GB DDR3 ram Western Digital 1 TB drive Seagate 1TB drive EVGA 9800 GTX+ driving my 32" LG 120 Hz HDTV external Seagate FreeAgent Extreme 1.5 TB hooked up via FireWire. ( eSATA cable that came with mobo did not reach accross the board! ) AND IT'S EXPANDABLE - APPLE, ARE YOU LISTENING! Oh Sorry. Just do a fresh install on you disk with you iMac. Set you BIOS with the info from www.expesshd.com or main efi-x website. Plug in the drive and and watch the magic! Good luck; Amigoid Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172246-installing-on-a-gigabyte-ga-ex58-ud4p/#findComment-1210932 Share on other sites
