Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and a new convert from PCs (or wannabe) to apple (thanks to the iPhone revolution :) ), well I guess I'm looking for the 'better experience'.

I've installed iPC osx86 10.5.6 PPF5 on my Sony VAIO VGN-AR630E which has the following specs..

Click here for VAIO VGN-AR630E SPECS!

However, I didn't do any BIOS modifications cause wasn't sure if I needed any for this model (couldn't find this model anywhere in any of the Mac osx86 forums).

I installed it with various settings such as..

  • kernel 9.5.0 once with it a couple of times without
  • once with X3100 and a couple times without
  • Intel ICHX SATA
  • NVDarwin for 256 and tried nvinject for 256 (both gave the same resolution)

  • once with ALC 262 and others with ALC889 (still no voice)
  • Yukon 88E8056, (still no ethernet connection) tried the hack available at
Click here for the Yukon 88E8055 hack! but it didn't work and couldn't authintecate the root user.

  • Intel ProSet/Wireless 4965 (still no wireless)
  • Patched USB drivers
  • Apple ACPIBatteryManager
  • Apple ACPIPowerSource
  • Power Management Package
  • IOPCIFamily kext Patched
  • PS/2 Mouse fix a second time with keyboard fix
  • Patch DSDT with NewHPET
  • Apple SMBIOS - 27 Rev3 667 MHz (the first time I chose 800 MHz and it didn't boot at all second time 667 as per my memory speed)
  • Chameleon with SMBIOS/DSDT (still I have to boot using the CD and I have to enter the command 'rd=disk1s2' for it to recognise which partition to boot from)
  • All Applications

So basically I had several problems after I managed to boot from the installed partion..

1. No connection to ethernet the Yukon 88E8056 didn't work as I have Yukon 88E8055

and tried to do the above hack but couldn't even log into root to change the permissions of the

files I altered.

2. No connection to Wireless since I have 4965AGN, not sure if there is a solution for this.

3. No sound I have Realtek HD Audio but couldn't hear any sound so I think the whole install is somehow corrupt or incompatible with my mother board.

4. It doesn't recognise that I have a second bootable partition only recognises the Windows 7 Partition and boots Windows 7 only, unless I boot from the DVD then it gives me the option to

enter a command where I enter a command I found here that is 'rd=disk1s2' where 1 is my second disk (the first disk is 0) and 2 is my second partition on the second disk.

5. When I get to the Network Connections and try to set it up it shows your current location is "%@" so it doesn't recognise my location and doesn't have any thing enabled no ethernet or wireless or any of the other available options and when I try to add a location the window just hangs until I kill it and after killing it, it cannot be restarted.

So I'm not sure if I chose the correct hackintosh image by choosing iPC, are any of the other options available on the net such as iDeneb or kelyway or iAtkos more suitable for my Sony Vaio.

Finally, sorry to write too much questions and problems in my first topic in this forum, but I'm starting to get frustrated with the hackintosh experience but don't want to fork the huge Mac Pro price, at least not before I've explored it in full on my PC.

Thanks in Advance for all your feedback.

im having similar problems.

i also installed iPC 10.5.6

i was also wondering if you are still able to download kexts/drivers without having to install the os again, because im not going to lie that was the worst 14 hours i spent working on my laptop in a long time

btw i have a HP HDX 16

Hi, I have tried several distribution (sort of speak) Leo install version 1 and version 2, iDeneb, Kalyway, iPC and the Retail and for laptops I recommend a patched distribution such as iPC or Leo. The iPC is the right choice, the only problem is that you have to install extra content that is not in the dvd.

READ FIRST:

First of all make a copy or a backup of your work, not all laptop behave the same. Remeber, when you work with kexts exists the possibility that you get kernel panics or other problems.

Internet problems:

Let's talk about the wireless card. I have the same card, but right now there's no functional driver. The developers of this project are http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/. The 4965 is beta and if you install it it'd reconigze unsecure networks (there is no WPA WEP support right now) so in some terms is not good. I'd recommend to buy a Bradcom wireless usb card or any wireless usb card that has OSX support until the 4965 is working.

About the ethernet, you said that you couldn't authintecate the root user, can you be a little more specific about that?. Do you have a password for your root user? if not, it is extremely important to have one. Go to Systems preferences, then go to Accounts and press the button about password and create one.

You said you have a Marvell Yukon 88E8056, I don't, so what I'll do is try to explain the guide here. The Hack page you posted isn't working so here is the one I found:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...4446&hl=ds4

A little of explanation first. The kexts are drivers here in mac, that's why when you damage or change something in the bad way and reboot you get kernel panics or black screens.

Kext means "Kernel extension".

You can see what is inside of a kext in Finder by clicking with the right button of the mouse and going to "Show Contents" and other window will show you the interior of that kext and you can keep exploring everything by Show contents.

The principals kexts are in: /(your root device)/System/Library/Extensions

So let's go to the Code: (I change a little what was wrote by Rammjet, so all the credit is for him)

Make sure the file exists (in Finder), go to the location of the file first to make sure is there.
After you saw the file and really exists go to the terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and type:

cd /System/Library/Extensions <-- changes directory
sudo nano IONetworking.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleYukon.kext/Info.plist <-- edits file

if after you enter this line and nothing appears (everything is blank, except for the
options menu in the bottom) is because you write something wrong or the file doesn't exist.
That's the mayor problem with nano it won't say if a file is or is not.

Or edit the next line (some people said that they have to change this one and not the previous one)

sudo nano IONetworking.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleYukon.kext/Contents/Info.plist <-- edits file

With the "sudo" command it will ask you for the password of the root user. Don't worry
if you're typing and the password doesn't appear, that's normal. After you type the password press enter.
After the file correctly open then:

(find and change: <key>Yukon-88E8053</key>)
(to: <key>Yukon-88E8056</key>) <-- change "53" to "56"

(find and change: <string>Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053</string>)
(to: <string>Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8056</string>) <-- change "53" to "56"

(find and change: <string>0x436211AB</string>)
(to: <string>0x436411AB</string>)	<-- change "62" to "64"

(press Control-O) <-- saves changes
(press Y and Enter) <-- accepts saving to existing file
(press Control-X) <-- exits nano

sudo chown -R root:wheel IONetworkingFamily.kext	<-- repairs permissions
cd /System/Library <-- changes directories
sudo rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache <-- rebuilds kextcache on reboot

Then Reboot

Theoretically it should work. Since I don't have Yukon I can't test this code but let me know how it went and if you have problems I will help you ;) just post your results.

Audio:

In this one I can guaranty you that the next method it will work.

I spent so much time with the kext audios until the VoodooHDA appeared. Basically this kext no matter which audio card you have, it will enable audio and the micro too (output and input).

First of all go to /(your root device)/System/Library/Extensions and search for AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext and erase them or copy them into another location (example a folder in your desktop) in case something happen.

Then download the VoodooHDA file in this post (Note: I post several VoodooHDA kexts I always install the green one, but you are free to look inside and choose which one suit you the best) and install it with kexthelper or OSX86Tools.

After this, reboot but remember to press F8 in the timeout and write the commands -v -f and press enter. By doing this it will load all the kexts inside the Extensions folder.

Now the sound should work. Check it in System Preferences - Sound.

Partitions

The only thing you have to do is install Chameleon 2.0 RC1 or RC2 (RC Release Candidate)

Anymway I'll post here both of them. I tried the RC1 and everything was perfect but the RC2 is newer.

Ok with this I believe it will help you a lot, let me know your results.

MacOSX is just amazing keep trying, be a little patient and don't give up. All the pain of the installation is worthy ;)

All the kexts and files I just collect them from the insanelymac forums all the credit is for them (and all the people who make this possible) I'm just sharing my experience.

Yeah, tough card architecture on the 4965. I have a Vaio VGN FZ-180E with a Intel ProSet/Wireless 4965

I spent a few hours researching the possible configurations for the 4965 and found the google code iwifi patch for the card. By the time i downloaded the patch i had covered much ground in the forums. I figured out the dell 1490 card would pop into my vaio in less than 5 minutes and i bought one on ebay for $12. the 1490 is in the mail and until then i am running off of a dlink WUA-1340.

The http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/wiki/Installation worked well for many. I opted for the 1490 because for $12 it is a sure bet vs. the questionably hit and miss iwifi.

good luck.

thanks a million by the way for the voodo audio fix !!
