What is your southbridge chipset? The problem is that the disks are formatted with NTFS or some other file system. He needs to run Disk Utility and format the target HDD with HFS+J before he can install to it. If it's more recent, for example if your motherboard has P45 and ICH10 chipset, you should use something newer.
