Hey guys,

Long time reader, infrequent poster. I have read through an absolute cornucopia of information on this site and for the most part it has helped me setup my AMD Hackintosh with almost no issues at all including triple booting OSx86, Windows 7, and Vista.

So onto my questions:

1) I have installed Chameleon 2.0, it's great, I love it and it's almost install and forget. Here's my issue - I can't find proper documentation anywhere to answer this one: When the Gui bootloader loads up, ALL of my drives and partitions show up (mostly a good thing we'll get back to this in a minute) My issues is the partition labels, for instance Windows 7's partitons show up as Windows NTFS and System reserved. Now to boot Windows 7 (on my system at least) you select the "System Reserved" partition. Is there anyway to change that so that it reads "Windows 7" instead of "System Reserved"?

2) Secondly, and kinda related to the first. Is there anyway that i can hide certain partitions:

A) From the boot loader - i.e: For Windows 7, I can only boot windows 7 by selecting the "system reserved" partition. There is no reason to have the other partition for windows 7 listed since it can't boot from that partition any way. The same goes for other partitions as well. I guess what i would really like is to only see the partitions listed that can be booted from.

:) From within OSX. I.E. Since there is no data on the Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition that i would ever need to interact with within OSX, is there a way so that once i'm in OSX i can make it so that that partition does NOT get it's own drive icon on my desktop.

I have searched everywhere for the answers to these to no avail. What ever help you all can provide would be great, whether that be a link to the info I need, or the actual info.

I am a well experianced windows/linux admin, but i am new ( and i mean very new ) to the mac world. I can figure things out pretty good, so there shouldn't need to be too much hand holding involved here.

Thanks for all of your help.

Cheers,

Jeremy

I'm not entirely certain about your Chameleon related questions as I haven't installed it yet. As for preventing drive icons from showing on the desktop, I find the best solution to be to boot into windows and change the volume label to include a period at the beginning of the name (ie: .Windows instead of Windows) This will prevent it from appearing on the desktop but will still make it show up in the Finder, which I find handy so that I can still get to the drive if I want to, but it doesn't clutter my desktop. If you need to do this with an HFS partition (rather than an NTFS or FAT) do it from within Mac by renaming the volume in the diskutility app in the Terminal. You can't use the GUI version of the Disk Utility because it won't let you use names beginning with a period that way. I can give a more detailed explanation of the terminal command if necessary.
