Here I have for sale, my PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8GHz and 20in Cinema Display. PLEASE NOTE SPEAKERS ARE NOT INCLUDED BUT CAN BE INCLUDED FOR AN ADDED PRICE.

 

Specs of the PowerMac G5 are as followed:

Mac OS X 10.5.7 Pre-installed

Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC processor

320GB Hard drive space (2x160GB drives)

3GB RAM (2x1GB sticks and 2x512 MB sticks)

3 USB Ports (With an extra 2 on the Cinema Display)

2 Firewire 400 Ports (With an extra 2 on the Cinema Display)

1 Firewire 800 Port

4 PCI-X and 1 8xAGP

Apple Pro Keyboard & Mouse (please note the mouse isn’t in the best condition)

Original box and accessories included.

 

The 20in Cinema Display was brought as a refurbishment from Scrumpymacs in Ipswich, it is in very good condition, but recently I noticed there 3 marks inside of the screen which can be seen in the pictures. I had the screen checked out my a Mac engineer and he said they are bruises, and if I only use a dark desktop picture they are unnoticeable. Also when I brought the screen it didn’t come with a box.

 

This was my first Mac, perfect for switchers from Windows (I was one of them .) I’ve used this machine for non HD video editing and a bit of music production and it has never let me down, I ran Final Cut Studio 2 and the whole of the Adobe CS3 range on this machine with ease.

 

The only reason I’m selling the machine is due to the recent purchase of a MacBook Pro.

 

I’m hoping it can make another user happy now as it doesn’t get much usage from me anymore. Any questions feel free to ask.

 

Due to the size of this package I’m going to struggle to be able to post it as the computer alone weighs 22KG, but if you really want me to post the machine to you I will be able to but it may cost quite a bit (around £80). So collection is preferred.

I'm in Ampthill, Beds, so delivery would probably be my best option (I know it could cost me a kidney to pay for, though!) - couple of questions, though, as I am not too familiar with the G5 family (I went from G4 Powermac to MacBook via some PCs and a Mac Pro at work), so here goes:

 

1) What graphics card does this have? Can I put in one of the 256mb or 512mb Radeon AGP mac cards if I can find one?

 

2) I'm assuming this is one of the early revision G5s (not the PCIE model), so what are my options as far as hard disks? Are these standard SATA like the later models? (Basically, can I buy a big old SATA drive from DABS.com for £50 and have it work...)

 

and, finally, 3) does this use standard DDR2 memory like the later G5s, in case I want to fill the slots?

 

Other than that, What is the ballpark you're looking for? I was looking for a Quad 2.5GHz ideally, but am willing to drop the spec if the cost is right - this will be a hobby machine, not a work machine, after all...
