So I installed osx and reinstalled it 3 times....can't get it to work it hangs at mDNSResponder for a few seconds then it boots. I see the apple logo with that loading thing, it boots and just stays at a light blue screen and does nothing. I think this is my video card, i have some werid dell version of Ati Readeon HD 3650 256mb pcie x16 the device id is 9598.

the other specs on my dell studio 540 are....

intel quad core 6600 2.4ghz, gotta use cups=1

4 gb 800 mhz ram ddr 2

according to cpu-z my motherboard is from dell and so is the bios

the chipset on my motherboard is a intel p45

sound is supposed to be acl888 but i dunno if its correct or not...

i installed osx using ipc 10.5.6 ppf5

i used the voodo kernel, installed the hd 3650 driver (i think that my video card isnt supported), did a few patches like the ACIPI patch and the cups=1, and according to another wiki with my computer listed on it, i use the LegacyAppleIntelPIIATA for the chipset...

anyways i found this other post with the correct drivers assuming that is what the problem is...

its near the bottom...

how would i install the proper drivers? i have no clue, does my install of osx actally need to boot up for me to do this or do i do something else? i have no clue what kext is so please noobify it for me. or what would you reccomend i do to get this to work?

Hi.. don't have experience with Dell's but, here are some tips. These are very generic so, they may need adaptation to your hardware. And, i can be wrong or not so correct ;)

The blue screen is indeed a graphics problem.

I recommend you start "low", that is, install only the essentials to boot and fix devices later, after boot!

So the essentials are: bootloader, patched kernel (if you have a unsupported CPU), decrypter, disabler, ps2 driver (if you have ps2 keyboard/mouse) and driver for your chipset (if you can't see your drives or you get "still waiting for root device"). Set SATA Mode to "AHCI" in your bios if you have that option.

In your case:

- you don't need patched kernel or cpus=1 (if you have problems booting with all cores, than try cpus=1)

- as far as i know, you don't need driver for your chipset

Looking at IPC instructions, you don't need to worry about bootloader, decrypter and disabler.. they are installed by default:

- bootloader= PC-EFIv9

- decrypter= AppleDecript.kext (decrypts encrypted binaries)

- disabler= Disabler.kext (disables mainly AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext)

So, select only PS2 fix, if you have PS2 stuff and install the damn thing. Don't select any graphics fix!! or you will have blue screen. I'm pretty sure you can put your devices to work but first, get booted.

Hope it helps ;) if needed pm me.

See ya

Glad it worked ;)

Try VoodooHDA: http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php?...&board=13.0

It's not perfect but, works for me (alc888 #2).. never found a perfect solution.

Now it's a matter of looking around for the best solution for your devices.

Did you had to use cpus=1?
