First Post, Be Gentle

I'm running a HP dc7100 tower PC, P4 3ghz, 512mb, 40gig WD SATA drive (clean, no partitions, no dual boot) running a Intel 915G/P/GV chipset

1st instalation, used the Disk Utility no problem, set up the journaled partition for the full 40gig, installed everything fine - except i'd forgot to go into the 'Customise' options and set it to load the AMD/intel patches. Once it had rebooted, looks like it was all going well till it got the status bar then the 'No Entry' Sign. Realised my mistake and tried again.

2nd Installation, Same again, but did the correct bit with the 'Customise' options, removed the languages and printer drivers, put IN the AMD/Intel drivers, picked up the HD fine - could even go into the System info bit and all elements seemed to be there ok.

Now, it reboots, does the loading Darwin bit, about 15 seconds worth of driver files flash up the screen, text size goes small, and here's where i look for errors and the only thing that really stands out is the "...something...apple915.kext' error message i think.

Anyways, i then get the blue screen and the mouse cursor and there it sits. Processor is wooshing away cause i can hear it and there's very limited HD activity. SO, now it's not going as far as it did when i DIDN'T load the AMD/Intel stuff.

it just hangs with that blue screen.

I've spent most of today and yesterday afternoon checking out all the guides and the FAQs on the Wiki site and i've not been able to get much further. I presume, at the boot options, i'm going to have to run some commands - however - it's it's not windows - i'm stumped! hence my reason for wanting MAC OS X, so i can have an option!!

right... i've gone on long enough. i apologise for my lack of google-usage and being a typical newbie just joining when i need help - but i shall become a usful member of this board once i've sort this out!

Thanks in advance for any help received/links given/hounded off the board - it's all deserved!!

Try a bit of careful thought when you go to "customise".. you have an intel cpu, so dont bother with anything called "AMD". You have a 915G-series chipset by the sound of things, so you will want to install those GMA drivers if you intend to use onboard graphics. In your place I'd wipe & go again.. Then if it messes up again with *just the options you need* enabled..

then I guess you have a problem :gathering:

Quck! Ban his IP! :gathering:

Just kidding. It might be useful to know which version of osx - ie is it the JaS 10.4.6 disc? The Myzar 10.4.5? The hotiso (which is identical to an older JaS disc I beleive).

Hagar is right tho - dont install anything you dont need. If you have GMA900, install support for that (if available), and install the relevant Intel patches. You dont mention whether your CPU supports the SSE3 instruction set (Prescott or later) or just SSE2 (Northwood), but you will need to install the correct SSE support too (i'm basing this on a JaS 10.4.6 install). From a quick look around the web for your HP model number, i'm guessing its a Prescott, so you have SSE3.*

[ * Before someone tries to point out that 800FSB == Prescott, check your facts - there was one generation of Northwood which supported 800FSB. ]

yeah, the first time i missed the customised settings completely, the 2nd time i've realised that i blindingly did the whole top level folder without looking into it. i think there was my mistake.

and you're correct - it's the newer prescott series processor ( ooo it has pipes coming from the heatsink) and i'm using the JaS 10.4.6 DVD ISO

i'm off to erase the partition now and try again from scratch. i'm not even going to attempt dual booting :hysterical:

however i've just got the Vista 5365 build... now... where the forum for that...... :D only joking!!

Cheers - i'll post my findings

Huzzah!

it's worked! see - i SHOULD RTFM!

I basically removed all the items not relating to hardware i don't have and it seems to have worked fine - using SSE3 and the GMA900 stuff. Straight through no problems after a clean rebuild.

Thanks Guys.

gunna start testing the rest of the hardware, make sure the NIC works ok, USB is ok but not sure about sound, will revert back to onboard as the 5.1 card isn't supported
