Hi all.

So I have got my Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R mother-board up and running using a 10.5.6 retail DVD, got my gfx card installed and the internet seems to be working with no real probs at this stage but I cannot get my audio working for love nor money!!!

I am trying to use on-board sound for 2 reasons: 1. because having spent about £600 on this system I have subsequently run out of money (and am loathe to spend anymore at this stage really) and 2. because numerous posts / blogs / forums report to being able to get the onboard sound working no problem...

I have tried following all the guides and am sure that I must be missing something! I have so far tried this guide, Kaido's guide, the Leopardsoup guide posted here by Weaksauce12, all without getting a single peep out of any of the ports...

I have updated to 10.5.7 to try different kexts... I have tried to install various different versions of AppleHDA kexts and HDAEnabler kexts using UInstaller, OSX86Tools, kext_helper_b7 etc and I am truly baffled...

The trouble as well is of course that I don't actually know which kexts do what or which ones are intended for what version of OSX etc...

If ANYone can help me, I would be extremely grateful...

Can anyone actually verify that they have indeed got the onboard sound for the UD3P or UD3R working in 10.5.6 / 10.5.7? If you can, could I possibly grab a copy of the kexts you are using directly from you?

Many thanks for reading my post and double thanks if you think that you can help!

Cheers

Justin

Hey, cheers. You (and skx) are a life saver. This has provided the only audio solution that has provided me with any sound whatsoever so far... I am really still dumbfounded as to why tho... :-s

Haven't had a chance to test it fully yet but thanks... like... a MILLION anyway.

P.S. I don't actually know for certain which audio codec my mother-board is using. I think it is ALC889a but would you know how to find out for sure?

Cheers

You can use a utility called LSPCI, it will tell you the vendor and device ID of every PCI device in your system. Then type that into google and see what you can come up with.

A quick way to get access to LSPCI is to install OSX86Tools by PCWiz.

If you have Windows installed, you can look up vendor and device IDs in the device manager.

Ok, stupid me, it was actually stated on the Gigabyte website that it is indeed ALC889a... (however, this is their standard product, but couldn't actually get verification that this is what my board uses...)

But cheers anyway.
