steve9x
Hello, I've been a windows user for ever and I will always be. However there is a certain software that there is not a windows version of and its mac only! (Logic Pro) What's the logic in that? lol... I currently use Ableton Live on windows(which is multi-platform windows/mac) which I like very much and it's great. I just would like to try Logic as I've heard its good also... So instead of spending a lot of $$ on a mac just to try Logic, I remembered hearing somewhere that you could run OS X on a PC! So here I am! I have two DVD's of OSX... 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.4 (Tiger), I would like to install either one I don't mind which... The dvd's are patched I believe since I've been reading around and supposedly you can't boot a regular retail dvd without modifications... or using a boot cd... and these two do boot. My computer that I am trying to install it on is a brand new Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 bought about 1 month ago (Not with installing OSX in mind, I just got this idea recently) http://laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/L300/L305-S5919 Well actually I would like to install it on either my 8GB usb flash drive, or my 500GB WD external hard drive... So that I can leave my Vista installation alone and just plug in either usb device and restart my computer when I want to load up OS X... I ran CPU-Z and it appears my processor does support SSE/SSE2/SSE3! So I should be able to install it right? Or is there more to it than having a minimum of SSE2? OK, lets get down to where I get stuck... here's my procedure: 1. Insert patched Leopard/Tiger dvd 2. Turn on PC hit F12 for boot menu 3. Select boot from CD/DVD 4. Wait for it to say Darwin at the top of the screen then regardless if I hit F8 and then -v or if I just press any key it gives me verbose output anyway (I suppose the patch makes it like that) On the Tiger dvd text scrolls down the screen, I can't remember exactly but something like "loading HFS+ driver" it loads mkext files, etc... (mkext stands for mac kernel extension I believe, it seems to me kind of like an archive of drivers/kernel modules/whatever you call them) On the Leopard DVD it does the same except it takes longer, there's more files that it loads... After that is threw it goes to a black screen(still) with smaller text... it says various things, I think I'll go through it again and take a picture after I submit my post so you guys can see better... Anyway it eventually gets stuck and stops and wont go any further and I have to hold down the power button to turn of my computer... Here us what the final output is before it stops doing anything... USBF: 36.344 ECHI controller unable to take control from BIOS USBF: 36.345 AppleUSBECHI[0x2bb5800]: unable to obtain ownership: 0xe00002be USBF: 36.347 AppleUSBEHCI[0x2bb5800]: :UIMInitialize - Error occourred (0xe00002be 36.364 Apple USBECHI: unable to initialize UIM after that it says "Still waiting for root device" and keeps repeating that line every minute or two... I'm at a loss at what to do from here... So I'm asking for help... I started searching around for the errors and apparently I'm not the only one with this problem... After a google search I came to this page: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=28559&st=0 I read the whole page and somewhat understand the problem... However I do not know which file to download or what to do with it? I have tried going into my bios and disabling legacy USB, and the result is still the same... So this fix seems like the only solution. Do I have to somehow put that file on the DVD image? and burn a new DVD? How would I go about doing that? Keep in mind I don't have any macintosh computers whatsoever, So I have to do it all from Windows or Linux alone! I don't have dual boot windows/linux It's just vista by itself but I have a flash drive/besides the empty 8 gig that has backtrack 3 on it... Hopefully once this error is sorted out there won't be any more, and I can actually get into the installer... Thanks to anyone who reads my post (or responds to it )!
