rup1033
Is there a way to patch the Nforce ATA kext so that ports 2 and 3 become 0 and 1, and ports 0 and 1 become 2 and 3? I have a few different opteron based computers and in my main rig I use a Tyan K8WE S2895 mainboard which as a awkward searial ata 0 and 1 ports(shown below). They are sideways and this is a full size mainboard and even in a huge case you cannot plug a sata plug into the port 0 at all. Thus making it impossible to get past the "waiting for root device" error. I did also attempt disabling sata controller 0 but the os still knows which one is which and cant find the root device. I also attmpted rd=disk0s1 kernel option to make sure it uses the right root device but that did not work out. I know os10 works on this serial ata chip as I have installed os10 on my other opteron rig which has a K8SE S2892 mainboard, just that the K8SE has proper sata port placement and I can use them all. Once a new power supply comes for that computer ill do further testing of all the components and make a post about what works and what I did to make them work for that board. Back to this boards problem here is a image showing the strangely positioned serial ata ports. Edit:"Actually I can install so its kind of a bad topic name, it just cant boot from being plugged in to ports 2 or 3" Take a look at my nice little graphic below hehe.
