ivanparas
Sorry if this has been asked before, but the Search doesn't seem to be working right now. I am trying to install OS 10.5 on my Vista machine and I keep getting an error in the Darwin part of the install. I boot from the CD and it prompts to start running the installer. After it lists a whole huge bunch of stuff, it stops on this: AppleNForceATA: found 0 units I tried installing using iATKOS v5i and Kalyway 10.5.2 and I get the same error on both of them. bmahf
Take a look here > http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...uides#Dual_Boot I'm having issues too. I've looked all over the internet and have also looked at the link above, but don't seem to find any answers. My big problem is that I am getting a persistent "chain booting error" message after installation and updating the boot record with bcdedit. The boot just stops there and does nothing else. Following what I read, here's what I've done: 1) Downloaded the "JaS OSx86 10.5.4 Client Server Intel SSE2 SSE3" iso file and burned to cd. 2) Have Vista installed on a SSE2 quad core system with two 500G drives, so I took the second drive (non-vista) and made it inactive in the Disk Management tool. 3) Booted with the JaS cd, and hit F8 to get to the boot: prompt. Then entered -v -f on the command line and hit enter. I had to hit -f because -v started and then just hung at some point along the way. 4) The Mac Installer started up and I went to the Disk Utility, chose the available disk, erased it formatting as Mac OS Extended (HFS+), exited the utility, and then chose that disk and completed the installation. The installation went without any errors, and then told me that I had to reboot to complete. 5) Rebooting went back to Vista. Downloaded a chain0 file and put it into c:\. Then at first I tried using EasyBCD to add the mac startup, but I got "chain booting error" on rebooting and choosing the mac osx. Then I went back to Vista, deleted that entry in EasyBCD, and tried what I read online: - Opened a command window as administrator and typed the following - bcdedit /copy {current} /d "Mac OS X" (just as it is written) - bcdedit /enum active - bcdedit /set {GUID} PATH \chain0 (where {GUID} was the guid for mac os x from the list given) This all seemed to work fine. The I rebooted and again chose mac os x and still have a "chain booting error" message and it just sits there. I am at my wits end at this point. I am really not at all sure why this is not working. Everything I've read online says that my steps are correct. If anyone can give me help here so that I can get this working I would be very grateful. Thanks... gazepo
@ bmahf The distro you have downloaded is for Intel Server. 1. Do you need to build a mac server? 2. What are your specs? you can also see details for this distro >here< Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169770-dual-boot-os-x-and-vista-problems-using-kalyway-and-iatkos/#findComment-1172761 Share on other sites

MacOSX does not create itself a partition on that disk, at least it formats the disk and then creates the partition... Enter on Vista Create a partition on 500GB HD Reboot Insert MACOSX and boot from DVD With disk utility you must mount the empty partition for MacOSX (HFS+) And then everything should be OK. It works for me with Kalyway or Ideneb I have dual boot (Windows Vista and MACOSX) with same disk (320GB SATA) 2 partitions. The instructions I have say to leave it unallocated and it will format it when it gets to the installation. Should I leave it Unallocated or should I format it? If I format it, what file system?
